Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any fake ones in circulation and if so how thick the plating would be (if plated at all.)

I wonder as i'm bidding for 1 now.

If anyone has dimensions that'd be cool but i can search for those myself if not.

Cheers in advance

Nope - by the way Apmex have some beaut 1986 proofs for peanuts on special right now... The presentation case is a bit Studio 54 but otherwise they're beauts. Oh, and they attract 10% GST on import to Oz... Still a barbarian cujillo bargain I reckon... ;)x

Ahhhh well didnt win it, but tbf i am only bidding up to spot (including postage) to try recover a bit of Oz to what ive payed on previous purchases

No, ive never seen or heard of modern libertad fakes, the old pesos and 8 reales are counterfieted though.

However there is a new faze of fake bullion recently ive noticed so you might be looking at the 1st generation of fakes coming out this year.

1for1

Best advice if starting in this addictive business is to buy a decent electronic weighing scale that is accurate to at least 0.01 gram
You can start with the $10 e-bay units from Hong Kong but if serious look for the Henry 50 scales which will cost you about 35 but worth it for long term reliability. I also have vernier callipers for measuring diameters very precisely. Fakes tend to be either under weight or significantly thicker and sometimes both. Checking size and weight takes a few seconds with the right tools and will help you sleep at night if buying coins singly on e-bay from odd sellers.

Yeah i got some scales to 3/4 decimal places depending on whether i do grams or ozt off amazon for 5 and they work perfectly, callipers may be a good idea aswell, thankyou

You can buy fake Libertads no problem at all for between 80 cents and a $1.40 each from Chinese counterfeiters. Not sure of their years though, the display pic they have shows 2004.

To ease the fears of buying conterfeits,it would be best to buy from a reputable dealer until you learn what to look for in a series.Right now the libertads are reasonably priced.

I got some carbon fiber composite digital verniers (Sontax) the work great and a lot less chance of damaging a coin, than the metal ones :) I think they cost me about $20 from a large Hardware Chain here in Oz.
