Lasseter's Lost Reef

Today I had the absolute pleasure of listening to Richard Fidler's "Conversations" ABC radio program with cartoonist/historian/author Warren Brown.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Lasseter was an Australian character best known for claiming to have discovered a 15km (7miles) long reef of gold in central Australia, but was unable to find the spot again on subsequent expeditions.

Warren has researched Lasseter and has compiled an amazing repositry of information on the man and published a book on him.

I won't spoil the ending, but Warren has uncovered an incredible tale filled with incredible characters.

Errol... you've gotta listen to this podcast. Absolutely intriguing.^^^^

Yep. I listened.. What a story! Would make a great movie. Lasseter would have to get the Biggest bullshipper in Australia's history. :)

Incredible wasn't it? You can understand why I said you have to listen to it to properly understand what happened. Any exposition I could've written would not have captured the incredible story.

It's amazing looking back how easy to spot he would've been (and most did) but the story endured... even to this day... folks are happy to be bushitted too!
