Kookaburra 1oz performance

I dont keep up with the numismatic scene much, but i noticed the 2011 and 12 kooks are selling at around $30 on PerthBullion and the 13s almost $40.. Is this premium above spot because spot is so low, or are kooks appreciating?
Now ive bought kooks in the past but had moved on to generic rounds, buffaloes and the like, but perhaps i should rethink. I can get 100 buffaloes for $2080, or 100 2015 kooks for $2351...

The closest I get to generics are "branded" rounds/bars.

But not a whole lot of them, dollar-wise -- and pretty selective which.

Heck, I've even heard decent arguments that stuff like common Maples, ASE's, etc., could be considered "generic," too!

I understand the low-premium stacker mentality, but it seems to me that with that, one is relying way too much on spot prices.

Of course, one could also make a different argument why (semi-) numi's could potentially be a bad idea, too.

Which is why for many I recommend some diversification. :)

Kooks for me every time over a bullion round even with the premium

I'm with Silverman all day every day. I'd have to say the 2015 kooks will be selling out relatively quick in 2015 at these low prices...and with 500K minted, I bet in short order APMEX will be bumping these up to 28 in no time. When I get some cash, I'm buying 4 rolls of those bad boys. Just say'n.

ha! and my bet is those things will get swallowed up if they remain around 19/20. I wont buy a 1000...but I will buy a lot. :D

Yea I might grab some wish I had the money to get a lot, unfortunately I can probably only swing a ten pack this week

better than me. I'm getting a zero pack this week. I'm all spent. I wish I had a coin shop around, I'd go and buy just a couple of 1 oz coins just to feel better about myself. LOL. You can't just buy 2 or 3 bullion coins from a dealer...shipping is just as much as the coin...better to save an just buy a roll of 20, you know? I like the PM wrapped rolls.

If you're in the US, some larger dealers like Apmex have an eBay store.

Prices there are a couple bucks more per item than at their main site, but "free" shipping is also included.

You can order as much or as little as you'd like. Even a half-ounce or something.

You'd have to run the numbers, but obviously at a certain point it's better just to order from their direct site.

id take the generic... but space is an issue for me.. and those capsules DOUBLE the size of your stack, that reason alone is enough for me to not ever buy and sell down what i have.

Its a joke calling Kooks numismatic isnt it? they are bullion from a country with a small population that used to not be popular but due to a shortage of international govt back bullion that changed designs.. kooks gained popularity.. then along came 2012 and the Perth Mint Shat where they eat.

Thanks for all the opinions... Gawd its hard to choose between 1oz branded rounds and kooks/semi-numismatics because both options are just so attractive.... Years ago when i started 100oz/kg PM bars seemed the only logical choice but now PerthBullion is here theres so many coin/round choices!
In the end i decided to get a mix of 1oz OPM rounds, sunshine mint bars and a roll of crocs. Would have got kooks but i didnt have any crocs yet. I wont be getting any more tho, 1 roll is plenty for me, 50-50 mix kooks and branded rounds in future.
Maples going for a good price but seem like a pointless middle ground between branded rounds and kooks.

What did the Perth mint do in 2012?

I thought any silver coin that is legal tender is not just bullion but bullion grade coins same as any silver legal tender from any period? nobody spends them for face value so they are just collected as UNC silver coins?
