King Charles coming to a Coin near you!

Eureka Moments

Yes, the time has now arrived for probably most of us who have only ever had QEII on every coin we've ever seen or spent in our entire lives, to deal with the fact that the noggin of The Royal Formerly Known As Prince will be replacing her.

Will this turn people off stacking minted coins and picking up schrapnel they find in supermarket carparks going forward, or only shorten the time before Australia becomes a republic?

However you feel about Charles, his likeness won't be gracing our currency until sometime next year

Your regular currency should change gradually. Back in the UK we still had George VI on coins until they finally resized the 5 and 10 pence pieces in the 1990s. This was even after decimalisation when the two shilling coin was still around as 10 pence and the one shilling coin was used as 5 pence. The notes may change faster but they should just naturally age out the existing currency as it becomes worn out.

UK notes will I think phase out much faster as I believe the UK Govt is phasing out paper cash for polymer GBP cash at the end of 2022.

I've sent an email off to Perth, regarding the transition of the new effigy to King Charles 3 and how it will affect current bullion releases, particularly
the Lunar Series 3, silver bullion coins.

Thank you for your patience

I don't think any of the bullion coins will change mid-mintage and have both Liz and Charles versions.

Don't know the legislative and procedural requirements and timelines of submitting the designs and gazetting them, but maybe all coins already approved will go ahead and Charles will be phased in on some 2023 coins and all thereafter.

Possible that decimal coins $1 may feature 2023 versions of both Liz and Charles because of much larger mintages or different design issues like 50 cents often do.

That's how I got into stacking silver!

I used to collect the old shillings and florins when I got them in change but no matter how hard I looked I could never find any before 1947. Until I went to a boot fair and saw some for sale for way more than their fiat value, the seller explained about the silver content which opened up a whole new world for me.

Things were a lot different before the internet!

You reckon better than Ox?

Time will tell.It could be.The mint is already behind with the release at least a month.Im not even sure if dealers can place an order for them just yet.Even if they do when will they receive it.Also I think people will focus on getting bars with lower premium. So yeah lets hope it will be an under 3k mintage:D

Yep, if there was an argument that the queen died to young it's because she didn't get to see the Lunar S3 mintages and prices through to the next cycle.
