Hey Stackers,

I'm after a Jubilee Head half sov (no specific year) in VF or XF condition, so I'm going to put up a 'WTB' thread in the sales section of the forum.

Before I do though, I want to know how much I should offer for it. I was thinking spot plus 6% (is that likely to generate a round of "tell him, he's dreaming" :/)

How much difference will there be in price on a XF over a VF sov?

Thoughts and opinions appreciated

You are looking at a rough guide of around 300% difference in price between VF and XF graded Jubilee half Sovereigns and about 600% between Fine and Extra Fine grades
The difference could be much greater for really rare years.
That's probably why most of my half Sovereigns collection are only Fine or Very Fine grade. The good stuff is really expensive.
Collecting rare Pandas is a much cheaper hobby. :)
 
You sure about that regarding Panda's?

The 2000 Frosted Panda is extremely common and goes for roughly $400. That is already in excess of the 600% premium on your Sovereign. Not too mention looking at rare coins where premiums can move in excess of 1000%.

Sweet sovereigns though!

The example I used was for lower grade Jubilee half Sovereigns.
Go up another couple of grades and you are looking at $7000 -$10,000 for a half Sov. A proof will set you back about $40,000 minimum.
 
dont own one of these but as rule of thumb if you say you want something the price i think you will pay would be spot + 15-20% but if a person was selling it now you would probably be able to get it for spot + 2-5% assuming its not a rare 1/2 sov; this is because both you an the seller allready know you now want it bad.

With gold it is the weight that counts on bullion.
Two half sovereigns weigh the same as a full sovereign but will sell for a higher price generally.
The half sovereigns don't look that much smaller and if not experienced could be confused with a full sovereign.
My favourite however is the 5 sovereign coin - a real beauty !
