I found a few more bars.... here's a photo... not sure what they are worth? I just want to get rid of them as they are too heavy and taking up space. If anyone can help me or wants them just let me know, can't wait to be freed of this burden

(not a serious quote)

3 posts from this member... remember that line about a fool and his money... who knows but it certainly looks suss at the moment.

HAHA, I guess I deserved that.. I'm just excited..

Jeff, are you trying to sell those bars?

If yes I would like to buy them from you. If you are in Sydney we can meet at Sydney stackers meeting at 12 midday in Sydney CBD.

Thanks

The OP used the word "basement" ... he may be from the USA or Canada ...

Yep... JM bar from Canada, basement... but it was the receipt from a pizza joint in Toronto in Ontario that sealed it for me. (photo was flipped though)

Age of bars still doesn't sound right to me though and story then comes under scrutiny.

Thanks for the replies. I am from Canada, lol, I put the bars on my kitchen counter and yes there was a pizza receipt, lol ( nice catch).
Regarding the bars, my father who passed away 15 years ago, had them stashed under a bunch boxes in the corner of our basement ( old family home). They have to be at least 30 years old ( the bars), because we haven't used that part of the basement in that amount of time. I'm guessing they are from the mid seventies.
It's surprising he forgot to mention these bars, when he passed away Silver was worth around 4.50 an ounce. And Imp sure he would have wanted my Mother to know of them, so she could sell. I wish I had found these back in 2010!

Anyways, the only reason I posted on this "board" was I thought I would run into a silver bar expert who could tell me all about them, JM Silver Bars.. And the SERIAL NUMBER.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments, and no thanks to the DAY TRADERS snarky comments on here. All on their way to the Day Traders Grave Yard...

I don't know much about these bars are they are from and primarily traded in Nth America.

It does appear that the oldest bar is to the right, middle next and the newest bar to the left.

The new bar to the left looks very modern to me and in recent. Are you sure about the age?

Yes they all have to be older than 1980's.. Nobody was down in the part of basement, they were found in for years... Plus if you notice there is a little bit of oxidization, they were found in the tin cookie thing in the photo, and on the FLOOR, so some moisture over the years seeped in.. Its even possible these are from early to mid seventies... Im very intrested in the SERIAL NUMBER WITH THE B!!! Haven't seen any on the internet like that..

If you don't need to sell them, then I wouldn't if I was in your shoes. Think of it as an investment that your father left behind for you when silver goes up....

Yes if they were mine, but I consider them my Mothers, who is in her 90's and can use the money.. We have been cleaning the basement in order for her to move from the family home after 60 years, and so I see them as a sign from my father, a rare find, and in order to help my Mother with the move..
And yes I would sell them at Spot, but I think shipping to Australia would be very expensive.. cheers..

Eh, keep in mind how it could look from our end here.. Brand new member, has 300 ounces of some vintage Ag, looking to sell..

Of course there will be some suspicion & doubt, heh.. ;)

In any event, also keep in mind that this is not strictly an Aussie forum, but an international one.

Plenty of members here from the US & Canada, too.

Finally, keep in mind that there may be some deep-pocketed collectors here, regardless of which country they're in, potentially willing & able to spring for the expensive overseas shipping, *plus* possibly giving you a better premium over spot than somebody closer to your neck of the woods.

Nice bars. Good luck!

SOLD! I sold all three for $CAD5,950 at PMX Canada in Richmond Hill this morning.. They will retail them for $1000 more... I'm happy with the results, and best of all its 5,950 for my Mother... Hero Son! Cheers all..

Jeff.
If I were you I would try local coin/bullion dealers or gumtree first. Assuming you willing to sell them at spot. Asking a little bit premium first and see how it goes.
Remember there always a risk for shipping silver or gold bars across boarders. Considering the size of these three bars, I would try local first.
I agree with what Gatito just said and yes you may will get a little high premiums if selling overseas. But a few hundred dollars vs risks, well you need to make the choice :) nic
