Internet providers in Australia?

Hope all are well.

I suppose this question is part of markets & economics.

How much bandwidth are you getting for how much $?

Not talking NBN rollout.

Just ADSL.

Been looking for a new provider.

Wife wants to keep landline & not keen on VOIP, so maybe a good bundle plan.

IT guru @ work spoke highly of Internode.

Sign up fees?

Good customer service?

I've just moved to a new housing development. Can pickup telstra hotspots all around me. Theres Broadband node outside my door, but because its NBN, Telstra isn't allowed in. The nain carriers, dodo, AAPT IInet haven't mapped it in yet.

Theres a microwave service in town giving fair data charges but because i'm in a rental i can't put an antennae on the roof.

So I'm on a woolworths bought mobile dongle...$100/6Gb. :(

IT Guru on Silver Stackers forum (me) also speaks highly of Internode. Have been with them for 10 years both office and home. What I use now wouldn't be of interest to you, but, for what it's worth:

200Gb monthly, ADSL2+, 4 telephone lines (1xPOTS 3x VOIP), all calls including overseas & mobile & local, static IP, 6 additional IP's (static), mobile broadband (USB stick for laptop), 99.8% (?) SLA (this is a business grade connection, I'm not exactly sure of the SLA guarantee, because I've never used it) = $206 per month.

And than the next day offering me they're service again :rolleyes:
 
I heard good things about Internode, however I don't know if their hardware or customer service has changed since being acquired by iiNet.

I am enjoying the power of a consumer wanting a product for best value.

Some providers are brain dead & some will jump thru hoops for my $.
 
+1 for Internode.

ADSL2+ home service, very fast, very reliable. Couple of minor outages, but no significant issues. Currently $60 per month, never go near my 30GB cap.

I will almost certainly stay with them when my contracts up for renewal in a few months.

From my experience of providers I have been with:

TPG - decent value, average connection, good speed
iinet - average value, average connection, average speed
Exetel - excellent value, excellent connection, good speed
Westnet - average value, good connection, good speed
Optus - poor value, good connection, good speed
AAPT - poor value, excellent connection, excellent speed
Fuze - average value, excellent connection, excellent speed

Overall, I would say the best value/speed/connection for myself came from Exetel.
 
I was going to recommend TPG as well, don't use them if you expect to need to call up for service though, apart from that they provide outstanding value (probably because they have their own international cable)

disclaimer, I have a couple of shares...
 
With Internode also - 150gb for $59.95 + Fetch TV for $19.95. It's a naked dsl connection but I'm on a grandfathered plan so it isn't available anymore. Being a naked connection I don't have a voice service so use voip instead.

Been with the 'node since '09. Good stable service and tech support is pretty good also. 2 or 3 times my line went on the blink and they sent a technician out to fix it. Their call back feature is handy when you need to contact support and they call back every time.

Not the cheapest provider around but they do have some good options like a free premium usenet service and no peak/off peak quotas and a decent array of unmetered downloads.
 
TPG unlimited downloads around $60 a month

.. Internode is very good too
 
I pay $75 (under old contract) with optus for home phone and adsl2 (120gb).
we receive $20credits every month for the home phone.

I think nowadays the carrier generally charges $50 a month just for internet.

and the phone / internet deal $60 per month = 75 gb & 9000 minutes of free local/national phone calls & line rental.

Internode
phone / internet deal $60 per month = 30 gb a month and charge for phone calls( includes line rental)
Internode does have some interesting unmetered content.

I've been with aaNet for about 6 years and have never had a problem with them.
Their unlimited plans are as follows
Local: $30
Metro: $50
Regional: $70

If you bundle it with a home phone plan they are $10 cheaper again.
I have no idea what their phone plans are like.

They just keep providing the service without any issues. I never have to call or contact them.
The way it should be. I just saw on their site they took out Money Magazine cheapest broadband plan for 2013.

Exetel & TPG go thru Optus which is not in my area.

BUGGER!

Internode is in the lead, but I do enjoy hunting down the best deal as a consumer.

Had another thread for car insurance, and one phone call got me down from $420 to $380 with AMMI.

Online overseas company offered $320 but peace of mind might see me stay with current company.

Just goes to show to shop around and stand up for your rights/best deal...
 
Was with TPG for 2 years and all good. Unlimited ADSL2+ for $60/month and free calls within Aus etc. They wanted a $120 "relocation fee" when I moved to Perth and wouldn't waive it so they lost my business over that.

So moved to Dodo and their unlimited ADSL2+ has been just as good. No set-up fee and wrangled a free month out of them too. I download hundreds of gigs every month and the speed is pretty consistent and fast. Customer care are pretty easy to deal with, especially as they were actual Australians I spoke with each time.

Whirlpool is a great place to read up on peoples reviews but unfortunatley most people only bother to write up their bad experiences...
