Incorrect weight stamp on silver ingot

Does it often happen when the bar weight and the stamp on it are different?

I got a couple of interesting comments on one of my listings and wonder if it really rare or common?
(the bar has a stamp of 5 Oz and the weight of 100g)

Anyone want to share some experience?

p.s. the bar was bought from the dealer and paid as for 100g ingot. :)

...spelling...

Doesn't happen often but don't think it adds much more to the price. Although I'm sure someone would wet themselves over it. Is the listing on eBay?

One backyard refiner was measuring his bars in avoirdupois but selling it as Troy. Claimed he didn't realize...

An esurient German mythological creature living in NZ selling a misstamped bar... Intriguing!

I think it would be interesting to see on a bar from a well known company (Argor Heraeus, Heraeus, Umicore... to name a few in Europe).

Any serious mint would melt it down.

Well, MW could be seen as a sort of a "serious " company on NZ market. They did charge only for 100g + substantial ingot fee, hehe.

May be the wrong stamp wasn't seen as an issue)

Well that's rare, but I'd call that a legitimate error bar.

Although obviously I can't prove anything, I'm thinking more along the lines of "intentional error bar".. :)
Hmm can you elaborate a bit on your version? I had been invoiced for 100gr
ingot, the little plastic bag the bar was on, also had "100gr " on it.

i think the commentators on TradeMe suspected me on using stolen pictures without reading the description.

the culprit :)

I love how the stupid questions on TM are always asked by idiots with less than 100% positive feed back.
I would also note the 2 i see that have commented on your auction do not even buy silver.
Dicks.
Ill buy it though.
Itll be my second over spot price bar:)

As mentioned, I can't prove it was intentional -- just as anybody can't really prove it was merely accidental.

Perhaps it was a simple accidental error, for whatever reason(s).. New guy on the job, or a goofed-up production transition from one type of bar to the next (whether machine or human), etc.

Or, maybe more on the intentional side.. Somebody getting bored & decided to have a little fun, or a little something to help drum up some buzz (& business) for the company, etc.

Regarding that last one, it's not all that far-fetched. In this internet world, it's all about the eyeballs, baby!

I reckon this whole thing has gained some extra attention for MW that wasn't there prior.. ;)

These guys are serious.
We get most of our gold ingots from them.

I'd adree with streling-nz here, MW are quite big in NZ. If their Website page is correct they manage to stay a family owned company, which is cool (IMHO).
I judge by amount of their bars I see in NZ and feedback from fellow collectors.

The fact that they charge ingot fee, I think, could be interpreted that they have small volume of operations and use JIT model. I tried to contact them a few times for other matters, but their customer service ignores me
