Came out like 2-3 weeks ago..

Prices have come down since, now that more (eBay) sellers are getting them in stock, and buyers aren't going as ga-ga over them.

Saw some being changed hands for some stupid prices. :o


Wide price range. Might come down even more in a few months? Who knows.

Snagged mine at the lowest price yet -- what I consider to be a fair price, I guess. Shop around.


Up to 500K mintage. Re-hash of the same design from a couple years ago.


I like how they come protected in plastic sheeting. Better than nothing.

Mine should be arriving in a couple weeks. Taking a gamble on the milk-spots.. :lol: :(

Recently I purchased two very neat 5 oz .999 silver Russian proof commemorative coins for not much more than it would have cost me for 2 ordinary crappy looking blobs.

on my wishlist too, it is hard to find them at a good price, due silly premium the resellers demand.

here is the price Russian Reserve Bank sells them to commercial banks (in rubles, 2d position from the top)

Very nice.

I like some of the Russian coins for quite some time.

Some of the Lunars are much nicer than from other "renowned" mints. Or at least least copy paste.

Yeah, the Ruskies do a nice job.. Have for a long time.

Put out a lot of modern proofs.

Not usually very cheap, though.


Plus if you go pre-'91, you'll get the USSR obverse.. :cool:


Not to mention the much older rubles & kopeks.

Of course, expect to pay up for those, too..
 
Gold rubles should be easy to get, they were minted in millions and could be a good alternative to sovs. (I think Gainesville has them)

Interestingly, there were some rumours that in early 20s Soviet used large proportion of platinum to mint silver coins, that due to shortage in silver and necessity to pay for exports.

Yes there is a Platinum Rubble , worth a small fortune , can't remember how much
Depending on what year they are , try to get a pre 1880's Rubble
There is a 1856 Gold rubble at Max Stern's for $2500 :o

Woah, the old ones might be expensive.

i meant early 1900', when gold rubles were used to pay for the debts.

There was not only rubles made of platinum, some kopeeks too. Dunno about the origins of this info, was taught about it by relatives in 1980's. That was sort of a known and wide spread legend.
 
The Moscow mint should really increase the mintage of their commemorative and bullion grade coins because they're really quite good coins.
I've got a 1oz coin commemorating the great patriotic war and it is amazing tbh.
