I'm tossing up between buying a 1kg dragon coin or a 1kg bar.

I'm leaning toward the coin (higher premium), I'm thinking it will have a better secondary market value, in a couple of years?

Any comments?
 
If you already have alot of kilo bars lying around, why not diversifying into buying a couple of beautiful kilo dragon coin?

Not every year we get to guy dragon coin, but you can pretty much buy kilo BAR every year!?

The bigger coins ( 10 oz Kooks and like and 1kg hummers ) dont sell that well - since the premium on them set by the sellers is steeper than the market would accept within
2 hours of posting.

a 10 oz bar ( ex pamp & exotics ) pretty much costs around $435 now +-$10
so how much should a 'basic' 10 oz coin cost ( Koala and latter year Kooks ) now ?

i think at least around $40 more

EVERYTHING IS MOVABLE AT THE RIGHT PRICE WITHIN 1 HOUR.
 
Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about resale if its gonna be part of your core stack. If it were me I'd grab a 1 kilo kook they're awesome coins not too common or cheap in these parts. A dragon would be sweet though.
 
I like larger coins more than larger bars.
They always inspire bigger awe in the eyes ( and hands ) of the noobs.

Be very careful buying numismatics dont get caught in the hype in the end all that counts is spot not collectability, remember during a financial collapse people wont care about collectability , Just be mindfull.

Isn't there a different tax for bullion and coins ie: CGT for bullion, so to my mind the extra that you pay for the coins would be more than made up for in the tax savings. Correct Yes? No?.
 
Were selling the 1kg bars for for $1351 and the Lunar Coin for $1364

For $13 more it makes sense to me (minted, shiny, flawless, in a capsule, designed etc etc), and as people have said you can always buy a standard bar anytime...
 
From my observation and simple calculation, prices on Perth Mint coins/bars are calculated by the website's spot price (AUD), times the weight, plus a standard FEE. As you can see, a 1kg coin over a 1kg bar is $66 different, it depends whether you are willing to pay the premium for the difference.

The fees are:
0.5oz -- $7
1oz -- $10
2oz -- $19
5oz -- $50
10oz -- $60
1kg -- $100
10kg -- $2650(why so high?)

10oz bar -- $21
100oz bar -- $81
1kg bar -- $34

Thanks for the useful list

Reason the premium on the 10kg coin is out of proportion is most probably
due to ultra low mintage numbers on such coins.
