I can access it today - or I can just leave it for another 12 months or even longer.

Thanks in advance for your valued - non binding - opinions.

ReInvest with a one of the more successful funds.
There was an article in the AFR that had a list of the better superfunds in 2014 and iglad to read that mine was in the 6 or so mentioned. Ill look them up and post later.

I'm in the same age/situation as you. I would take it out now and immediately buy silver kilo or 10oz bars from a local dealer. Someone who will buy their own product back off you if you are in a jam.

The way the government changes the rules, I'd do it sooner rather than later.

Pay off the house or buy a hundred or so sovs or quarters to spend as required.

You are old !!! i would spend it on fibre rich foods & sanitary napkins :p:

Dont you laugh sammy !! you need to cash in some of your 50's for some adult nappies & metamucil aswell

But seriously .If you dont need it roll it over .If you want to spend some have some fun & do what makes you smile .

Maybe a little cashflow business to keep you active in your retirement & get some small returns . Game machines ? breathalysers in pubs ?ride on elephants? I know a few are laughing now but i have an old mate that done that when he retired to give him something to do & not only did he have something to do a couple of days a week he made quite a few bucks doing it .

A few words of advice from someone who tried to retire early . It gets boring after a while . All the things you love doing wear thin after you do it long enough .....Good luck

and if you had have done that in 2011, 2012 or 2013 you would be well well behind

I would buy RE or put into a blue chip share that pays a good dividend.

Have to agree.

Since you have no debt....

I would do either of the following or a combination of both.

1) transfer the $40K into a cash portfolio if you don't need the cash straight away......as I believe the share market is in for a very bumpy ride this year

2) purchase some precious metals as mentioned by previous members.......combination of both gold and silver ( 1oz gold - low premium and 10oz or 1kg silver bars )

Please note that I'm not a financial advisor, so what I have stated above is my own personal opinion and what I would do if in a similar position.

Pay off the house

If you haven't paid off the house by the time you can take your super out, then you've done something horribly wrong.
I assume the OP has just hit retirement age?

Grow snail's, cheap start up and ready market for consumption. Anything but leaving it with the holders of it

In that case I know a few people who've done horribly wrong things.
