I decided to make a wooden treasure chest and fill it with shiney silver and set myself a task of cleaning at least 10 coins a day, soaking in cloudy ammonia and then cleaning with a toothbrush loaded with sodium bicarb.
The ones on the bottom right(ish) were 925 so they got extra love. Then I started on the shiney shillings. You can see how far I got! Your back starts to ache and your thumbs go black with tarnish.
I bought a shot cleaner at a market for $10. You fill it with steel shot and some coins and it vibrates. I put some cloudy ammonia in and it sort of worked, so I put some sodium bicard in as well. It makes a sort of concrete and takes ages to clean off the coins.
It is just as easy to use the manual method.
I had to put it away because of all the mess and noise but when I get a chance I will have another go.
