37 grams of Victorian magnificence. Not found by me.
Bastard who found it is a top bloke and a kick-arse Gold detectorist. It is his largest ever find and sadly, for the rest of mankind, will never be for sale.
Yeah, that $2 coin looks mighty fineI wish I had have found this...

what do you think the purity of this would be? Is it 37g gold + rock (quartz?) or total.
When selling/buying nuggets do you pay at a gold rate for total or is it just pure portion?
BALLARAT Gold Shop owner Cordell Kent has confirmed a 177 ounce gold nugget was found near Ballarat yesterday.
A video of the nugget has been posted on multimedia sharing site You Tube and claims to have been found with a hand held metal detector at a depth of 60cm.
At the current Australian gold price of almost $1600 per ounce, the nugget could be valued at nearly $285,000.

Most detectors would have found this target... 5.5kg at 60 cm. It would sound as loud and obvious as a Car door.
The 37 grammer in my original post was around 60cm down and found with a GPX4000. Dunno if many other detectors(apart from 4500 or a 5000) would get that one.

True, it's a matter of walking over it as well as having the right gear in your hands. My concern when looking at detectors is a split between the GPX 5000 being the benchmark (but Coden certainly charge for it), the cheaper Whites TDI Pro Oz but how much performance is sacrificed in comparison and well whatever else lies just around the corner (be it a new ML model or someone elses).
Honestly, I'm finding trying to choose a metal detector more difficult than the work designing and assembling PCs and home servers. :|
edit: Apologies for the topic deviation.

Every time a FRIGGEN HUGE NUGGET like this is reported in the media its value is guesstimated at whatever prevailing spot price is. Totally missleading as to actual value.
177oz = 5500 grams = 5.5kg = one of the LARGEST AND RAREST Nuggets STILL IN EXISTENCE.
Double spot would be the minimum starting price for the owner.....assuming that it's for sale.

There is a Casino Hotel in Las Vegas named the Golden Nugget. The actual nugget (on public display) is named 'The Hand of Faith', it weighs approximately 875 Troy ounces (27.21kg). It sold for an (estimated) 1 million US dollars...in the early 80s, when gold was under USD$500/Troy Ounce.
