Just wanted to make a quick thread on this for two reasons - in case anyone comes across any info, and so that others might learn my lesson & review their own storage options.

Our place was ransacked a few nights ago in outer Brisbane, my safe didn't seem to put up too much resistance as it was pried open like a tin can. I had a mixture of gold & silver in bullion & numismatics. Something like 10oz gold, and 450oz silver. Lots of 10oz Perth Mint silver bars, some 20's. The gold was a mix of Perth Mint coins, bullion, and small Ainslie bullion. Few sovereigns too.

They were only meant to be in there transitionally until I could sell some more to put the cash on the house, but now the damage is done.

I'm under no illusions that I'll be seeing any of it again, but should any one here do any deals with any one in greater Brisbane who doesn't appear to be in to this stuff please let me know.

Safes are an excellent substitute for a big neon "Here it is!" sign showing them exactly where it is.
I'd never have one myself.

^ You're right, and I probably wouldn't have had one apart from a legal requirement for my paint guns - oh & they're gone too. Only smalls gone, all the jewellery boxes emptied, that sort of thing.

In ways it look targeted, and in ways it looks frenzied & unorganised. We learnt from the neighbours that this place was also broken in to not long before we moved in & we've only been here a year.

Anyway, harsh lesson learnt, and I hope others can get something out of it.
 
Shit mate that sucks!

Stats say that 90% of all home roberies are done by people that have been to your home.

This could be an airiel guy , pizza guy etc , have a think if you had any people in your homre or near it when you talked about your goods or made a FTF trade and they followed you home?

Good Luck and I will sure keep an ear out as they will need to get rid of it soon.

maybe they attract attention if your stupid enough to show people where it is .& on the off chance someone does see it it needs to big enough & heavy enough for them to think its way too much trouble .

Safes are the safest place to store valuables why do u think all banks & big businesses use them .. .If they cant lift it or get into it they will move on . If its a gunsafe or something similar they are useless you need a REAL safe
 
Gun safes on average are 3mm thick steel and can be opened with a angle grinder even a sharp axe very easy!!, you need 6mm minimum door/sides with a relocker system plus a security system............
 
If they don't get your safe the 1st time would they be inclined to comeback again with better tools? Any stats on this?

And most people would be inclined to move everything out of the safe into a deposit box before they came back.
 
Sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully those buggers will be found soon enough.

Just wondering, would house insurance cover for something like this? Albeit to a certain cap I suppose.

Is there a particular bars with serial numbers. Something to distinguish them. Photos help.
They wont go very far. Something that is not likely to sell.

It wasn't that long ago that another SS Member got hit in Brisbane.
