How much would you pay for silver today?

Let's say we're talking 1kg blocks ...

What price would you be willing to pay today?

Maybe relate to spot price, eg (Spot + x)/kg

Currently spot is at around $1020/kg

I was thinking about it earlier today... about where we are in the silver cycle, sentiment etc..

When prices are going up then judging on past experience it would be relatively easy to sell at spot + 5 % for a normal bar and spot + 10% for a PAMP bar...

However, in the current environment where nobody is quite sure how silver will move, there are fewer buyers out there, so people are not prepared to pay as much.

theres so much silver around (the most physical since 2008) at the moment im very spoilt for choice.. i can pick up rolls of libertads for $720 or KG bars for around $1075 or 10oz for around $345.. im still buying nothing - i think the lack of demand and sudden non-supply issues at the moment has left me feeling bearish..

Hopefully i get well soon but knowing i cant even get spot for my 1kg ABC bars is making revise and ponder my silver investment strategies.. also how fickel the silver market seems to be, maybe a healthy leg up will see premiums return but who knows.

You mean bearish right? I've been bearish since last year and dumped all my bars when spot was $40 :P

Yeah sentiment affects prices greatly. It's actually a great time to buy now since everybody is scared. Contrarian investing!

However I have no funds so can't buy anything :(

Hi Fishball, yes i meant bearish.. damn those SS lunch meets ---

Yeah i agree with the contrarion indicator usually also as im a huge Jim rogers fan.. i have the cash to spend but seeing how much silver is available im finding it really hard to pull the trigger. Not hard to part with the cash just seeing the prices people are getting.. and noticing a lot of good stuff is coming out.. old rolls of kooks, lunars etc.

Just hope when the price rises that there will be more demand when the time comes for me to sell (and knowing how long it will take to liquidate physical!)

Cheers,

I haven't bought any silver for a while now!

Just come back from holiday in Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan and I was expecting to see lots of fake silver on every street corner, I didn't find anything, even in the markets. Must have been looking inthe wrong places I guess.

As to what I would pay for silver, I am still going for the higher premium offerings rather than a poured bar and they cost what they cost, regardless of what I want to pay. I have decided not to buy the 10 coin Dragon set though so apparently I think $100 per oz is too much.

When silver was comng off it's high a few of us here talked about an SS "sentiment" indicator. It showed how close we were to the top by the number of "silver to da moon" posts there were and the vehemence with which anybody suggesting we might be near the top was shouted down with. I think we are very close to seeing the opposite.

that everyone is sitting on their hands at the moment leaves a lot out there for a buyer. Just wish I had more money. As someone who has very little interest in selling for quite a while, its giving me the opportunity to collect items that normally might be a bit out of my reach. Risk versus reward, its worth a gamble.
What I would like to pay and what I do pay are a lot different. spot + up to 5% sounds reasonable to me and of cause depending on the item. So no more nice painted proofs for me anymore :(

This is the exact sort of time where having things that are semi numismatic pay off. While bars follow the price and sentiment of the underlying metal - things like lunars and kooks also have a numismatic component which helps hold the price and makes them more easy to sell (IMHO).

Honestly, I am buying.
Getting good deals at closer to spot than ever before.
Sticking mostly to bullion priced silver (so bars/50s etc) whilst the price is lower, and because I suck at anything with numi appeal (beyond lunars and kooks).

Surprised there's not more buyers to be honest.
When sentiment is low - it's the best time!

I'd buy more, but out of cash (just bought a 10oz SS bar).

Sucks being young since you have no money saved up like all you old folks :P

Thanks for the input guys...
Personally I reckon now is the best time to buy, as premiums will probably go up once the price starts climbing steadily again.

Some good posts, but aren't we over doing it a bit. We're at US $32 but it seems like we feel it's about $18! I don't think we are that low. This is a solid price from where we exploded from only a year and some back.

I'm really tempted to have a nibble here and we may get another rise to $36-37, but silver and gold have by and large traded with the markets for months and it appears that we are seeing a rounded top there. The dollar is also due some strength and a rebound. I could be completely wrong but I just don't see why they will all of a sudden break from other equities through the US summer. Don't want to upset anyone but I still feel we are going a lot lower over the next few months or quarters before a strongish finish to the year.

After saying all that, probably reacts completely differently and it means it's time to buy :)

I'll keep on buying till i hit 1000oz mark, my first goal. Not too far away now.
Quite happy with the price at the moment and also the supply.. alot to choose from and a previous poster mentioned.. alot of older stuff coming out of the woodwork.
Have bought roughly 100oz in the past 2 weeks.. mixture of 5oz and 2oz libs, roll of kooks and 10oz and 5oz dragons. Not a kook fan but went with the roll anyway.

Bullion - as low as possible, whatever the weather
Numis - whatever I think they're worth

BB covered a tech analysis (unded thread Long Silver - Technical Analysis).
It is good as a supplement material in making a decision, imho.

Boring............
For old time stackers who got in at a lower $ fiat value & have stacked to the rafters, this is all white noise.
Come back in yearly terms & lets see how it goes.
Nice to see the SS forum still has some grunt.
If you have spare fiat $, where else are you going to park it & find that it still there in the morning?????

I'm loving these prices and the great selection on offer. Bars close to spot, cheap kooks on offer in different sizes, vintage available, site sponsors/dealers with great prices and selection even from America..monarch, engelhard.etc......what more could you ask for.
I think most are asking fair prices, even open to offers.
A great time to buy in my opinion.
I'm a happy stacker!!!! .:)

Buy Buy Buy. Unless you're in silver for the short term noise.

Wasn't people patting themselves on the back for buying physical fir $31 two minutes ago and winging that no one had stock when it dipped under $30 spot?

If it goes down from here theres going to be a bunch of people winging they couldn't get any in the dip... wah wah If it goes up the same people will be winging about the premiums that creep up every time we head in a lunar direction.
