We've all seen the fake coins on feebay. But here's a new twist. In the advert description it reads: "My 35 Year Old Wife has Parkinson's Disease and i am selling items to raise funds for the very expensive on going living and medical costs. Together with your HELP we can give her the best life possible. A big thank you to all the people who have purchased my items"

Bought from someone with a similar ad that lived pretty much around the corner from me in Syd. Had a conversation and it ended up with him inviting me around to meet his sick wife!

As curious as I was, common sense prevailed. There would be a few people who look for extra income through sites like eBay so I'd always give them the benefit of the doubt unless you can prove otherwise.

Agree, I don't get why Matthew would be throwing a tantrum....seems a bizarre thing to do unless he knows the person and his wife personally but clearly Matthew doesn't. Very weird.

Not that I defend the guy or anything. Maybe everything is true, maybe not.

How can you prove this? By posting pictures of sick wife on the eBay?

Does anyone even realize how much money, donated to charity organizations, ends in wrong hands?
One woman wrote a book about how that money actually (in some if not most cases) extend the conflicts. I will try to find the book title.

Because of people who fake their need for help, poor and sick suffer.
 
Hello forumites, I guess I may have been a bit harsh on this feebay seller and your comments are welcomed. I just get peeved and feel bad for people being conned by sellers selling worthless junk as a PM collectable. When I see a seller selling "clad" "layered" etc and then a coin that is supposedly "silver" trading off the name of the Kookaburra which the Perth Mint developed, I get a little sad for the people being fleeced. Added to that the claim he's selling just for his sick wife, it makes me even more infuriated.

My view is that the 1/10th Kookaburra coin is "fake" because I seriously doubt it is pure silver and its trading off the Kookaburra coin name that the Perth Mint developed and this is just a replica/knock off of that coin.

Perhaps everything here is above board but as they say in Court, on the balance of probabilities I'd say its a fleecing operation.
 
I feel sorry for the guy
1) if the guy's wife is sick he needs help already
2) if his wife is not sick and he uses this kind of scam then sooner or later she'll get sick because he calls for this

The only thing I could ping on that auction - without seeing the actual item and checking it is the fact that it's labelled as a "coin" and not a "round". It's clearly not a coin IMO, which implies legal tender status, which this doesn't have.

I haven't looked at the sellers other auctions, but I believe BB did and made notes above.

If I were to really stretch some assumptions, the account details "bellablue26-2009", and if one were to assume that was the account holders age in 2009, it does not tie in to the personal story of leaving a career of 17 years to look after a wife aged 35. That is a good stretch of assumption though, and the numbers may not have the significance these assumptions place on them.
 
I've actually bought off this guy and couldn't fault the product, communication or postage cost and time. Item was delivered with a small note and Australian Penny outlining the story of his sick wife thanking me for the business.
I've since bought off him again. A FTW from me.
 
Yup that's bull. Besides sympathy why else would someone state such a personal issue when selling coins! Competently irrelevant to the item or sale. =S. I think it's pretty disrespectful.

Bazil, the guy sells good products at good prices to support the ongoing care of his terminally ill wife. If you choose not to buy from him, good. The sympathy vote is irrelevant, don't want it, don't buy...simple, keep you're simpleton assumptions to yourself.
 
Chronic not terminal though it can be terminal, I have a terminal child and a chronic partner wouldn't use it for profit.

Think it's totally disrespectful but that's just my opinion, as is the last part of your comment ashleyd it was also ignorant but hey can't help that can we.

Wilty, you're a human dictionary, congrats. I don't think he's using it for profit, simply stating his cause, there's a difference. Maybe he should say all profits go to sporning terminal children and chronic partners and you would reach into your pocket and buy something off him??
Leave the guy alone ffs.
