How Fossil Fuels are Greening the Planet

Its not true, all the CO2 goes up in the sky and causes global climate change/warming/cooling/raining/flooding/bushfires/earthquakes and extreme stuff.

The real culprits for man made negative impact on the planet are the oil criminals who suppress all clean, free energy technologies.
These people are subhuman. They would rather destroy the planet and threaten the existence of human kind over dealing with the fact that that their dirty oil is an archaic relic for energy.

There is no doubt that fossil fuels have made the world a better place, without them we couldn't go on holidays abroad, we wouldn't have the machinery to do such intensive farming and there would be no factories churning out cheap plastics and fertilisers based on oil products.
However as with most commentators this one was a one-sided view pushing a particular agenda, as one sided as the Greens views.
Sure CO2 is vital to plant life on the planet, but CO2 isn't the only gas given off by burning fossil fuels, the fuels also contain natural sulphides and additives, even lead as an anti knocking device many years ago. Although you don't hear so much about acid rain since they were made to scrub the exhaust properly.
And sure, nothing lives in a fossil fuel deposit so we aren't stealing homes from woodpeckers, however I think we have all seen enough pictures of seabirds covered in oil to know that it isn't entirely a perfect system.
And fertilisers are fine when they are on the fields but when they leach and cause algae blooms they can choke the life out of the waterways.
If you took this guy seriously we would all be burning coal in our front garden to help the environment.
I think the message is that mankind is so insignificant that no matter what we do it is only going to have a small transient effect on the planet anyway. Fossil fuels aren't the problem, the way we use them is. By trying to save money we cause problems, eventually the problems get big enough and the government forces the industry to clean its act up, which they don't want to do so they just dump the costs on the consumers.
As an overview it is pretty convincing but if you look further into any of the issues he raises you will be able to come up with many opposing views, many of them have their own agenda too. I am on plenty of farming and gardening forums and none of them seem to share his rosy view of intensive farming and not wanting to get down to crumb structure of soil or dust bowls but chemical based agriculture is not as sustainable as we would like.
