I wouldn't necessarily attribute the premium hikes to the retailer right away. Likely to do with increasing reserve requirements at the reinsurer layer. In other words, result of government meddling.

Mine was $2000 to renew, so I switched to another mob and saved $400 for the same level of cover (as far as I can tell).

how about private health insurance?

this seems to be the last one I need to shop around :D

currently pay $310 a month for family top cover with no excess.

They charge me arm and leg :|

When I bought my car, it was worth $25k, i was <25 with a crash on my record. Premium was $1050.
Now the car is worth $9k and I'm >25 with maximum No-Claim-Bonus. They're demanding a premium of $890 (up from $740 last year).

Switched to another (still reputable) mob - $450. Shop around! And don't waste your time with those online comparisons (iSelect etc...), they're inaccurate and only show a few options. If you want the savings, you've gotta do the legwork yourself.

AHM have raised their premiums by >10% each of the last two years, they are now about $280/month for family hospital cover - though excess of $500 per family member per year for hospital.
