Holden asks for 265 million bailout!

Maybe people are just sick of having about a third of the value of their new car removed after driving off the lot. If you're going to buy a new car, it might as well be a cheap one or one that will retain its value better.
 
Or just keep what you have and invest your spare money in pms and wait a few years.....but not everyone is as smart as all of us here at SS'rs!
 
If i were Holden now is the time to ask for a handout - KRudd just gave his 'manufacturing is the way forward for Australia' speech so why wouldn't the Holden executives ask for the $

I don't agree with it and hope the Govt tells them where to go (i prefer VW and Toyotas anyway) but i can see why the greedy b@stards would ask now.
 
Add to that Ford just announced it's closing operations in Australia, it would look really bad for Australian manufacturing if Holden followed suit in the lead up to an election. I'm waiting for Toyota to join in the cash grab
 
It's just work for the dole basically with the execs taking cream for themselves. Oh and wasting resources doing it.

I don't know why the government thinks manufacturing is going to provide jobs. Looks to me like manufacturing's future is full automation.

Just think if the govt was this big when cars first arrived and they'd be bailing out all the horse-shoe repairers and proclaiming the horse and carriage industry is Australia's future. :rolleyes:

I think if this really happens they will have to call a recession in Oz..... Theres not much good news going around at the moment this year is there?

It's been building up to this for years. The sooner we have a recession the better.
 
It's almost as though the media rhetoric of "recession" has found it's way onto here. 2013, when The Great Recession began.

"Wasn't that bad, could have been The Great Depression".

Fleeced once again.
 
Gees, maybe theyre all going to invest their payouts into pms......400 is a lot of people to put there hands up.
 
Election year... now for the promises...But we are in the red, we have no money...No problem we will find it somewhere..

Now what about building some more subs in SA now that 400 jobs have been lost there.

A new highway for Qld...one party promises $5 billion over 10 years whilst the other one promises $6billion with the state government putting in another $2billion.

Single mums get lost $ returned??

Gonski reform to cost a fortune.

NDIS will cost a lot of money too.

Now I agree that some of the issues above are worth having in a society but only when the country can afford it.

Peter Costello has recently stated much the same " I don't think we can afford it now".

Now just wait until the election is called and the promises begin..

I thought it would be different this time but it looks like I will be wrong again. :)

At 265 million dollars to Holden in a country with about 23 million people, is about 11.5 million dollars per man, woman and child in this country... i want a Lambourghini ...
