High Relief 1oz dragon proof

Woke up at 05:00 Brisbane time as usual, so about 03:00 WA time. Put in the order, waited 17 minutes and then paid by PayPal.

Relatively painless, I did wonder about having to wait 17 minutes, I asked myself who the hell is in the que before me, it is 05:00! Now I realise it was you lot stopping me from getting back to bed.

As it was my first order the postage was free! Right up until the time I paid, then it appeared on the Paypal receipt, so somewhere between ordering and getting the receipt the postage crept back unannounced.

Well it looks like it might be a popular one.

My local Post Office thinks they are getting some in so if you missed out it might be worth checking them.

But a bit dodgey i reckon especially for an unlimited mintage

Limited by production time I would say, rather than unlimited mintage.

They haven't set a mintage but there are only so many they can crank out inbetween all the Dragon releases before they have to start making the Snake (boy do I think they are going to be a bit dissapointed with Snake sales!)

Thanks guys, I was thinking about placing an order with Talisman and will now avoid them like the plague.

The last couple of months have been a dragon quest and I've tried to pick up every 1/2 and 1 ounce dragon produced by every mint including the colored versions. Being a classic coin collector I didn't think I'd ever buy a colored coin but now I'm hooked on dragons even the colored ones. The high relief is coming out after a lot of us are suffering dragon exhaustion but a year from now my bet is that it will be a highly valued coin. What concerns me is the number of offerings by all the mints is starting to become overwhelming. It reminds me of the early 90's when sports cards were hot and the manufacturers saturated the market with so many new products and gimmicks the market just collapsed. Fortunately, there is at least silver content in lunars but for the premiums to be justified silver would need to be well over $100 AUD. I wonder if the lunar snake is going to have as many versions from all the mints like the dragon has had or will will be able to look back and realize 2012 and the Year of the Dragon was a special year.

They are still unavailable on the website, have they sold out for real?
Does this include the ones you can buy over the counter?

mmarc77, I guess you have a couple of suitcases full by now.

I came here from coin collecting too and I hate coloured NCLT with a passion, thought I seem to have quite a few coloured dragons and will probably buy the set of 10 if it is released and I can get up at 02:00.

Same thing with Stamps in the 80s, a new set every week it seemed. Same things with Phonecards. Can't get your money back on most of those, at least with coins you can melt them down.

I think the snake will be a dissapointment after the dragon, I looked at the lunar series around the year of the rat/mouse so I missed the last snake but having seen the old one, it wasn't that exciting so I wouldn't want a gilded/coloured/.5oz coloured specimen or any of that. Might go for the High Relief and a Proof and a roll of the 1oz bullion but really can't be bothered with the rest.

I would like to have gotten hold of the full set of Perth Mint dragons but although I would buy a coloured one I draw the line at having gemstones inset. Still, I have a nice variety and I will probably pick up a few more once the hype dies down.

I couldn't be bothered to do this for the snake though, especially as I know I would not bother for the rat, rabbit, goat, chicken, worm or what ever the others are.

Crazy!! Just getting the dragons from Perth Mint alone is hard/expensive enough, yet trying to get all of them from all the mints around the world.

I bet I'm not the only one who ordered at 3am and who feels like an idiot now...

Better to be safe than sorry :)

I just left the computers on at the checkout screen and went back to bed. They seem to vanish pretty quickly after the PM put more up on the website.

What the...

New coin releases available from 12.01am 3 April 2012 (AWST):
2012 Year of the Dragon Ten-Coin Set

OK, but after that one I am going to quit...

It would have been a bit mad if they managed to sell all 7500 before the shop opened in the morning.

I hope they held on to the recent batch so that people in Australia got a fair chance at getting them without the whole lot going to overseas people who didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn.

But... but... the 5oz proof that's coming?

:P

IMHO 10 coin is one to skip, the OS one didn't seem to get much of a premium in Aus. Risk/reward is high, but I cannot see it going backwards. Like the 1oz coloured proofs X10
