Personal wealth has taken a hit in ways which may not be obvious to a lot of people. Here's a thought: how much would a round-the-world trip set you back right now?

There's a connection between the value of your money and freedom. I've been thinking about moving some of my liquid assets into other assets, but then I just wonder what the point is to it all. If society has become authoritarian, then what use will those other assets be? Greater "value" in relation to the assets that were left behind? Greater freedom within diminished overall freedom?

I can see a time approaching where the most valuable thing will be food.

Okay if you have all the ideas. How do people escape the whole western world plus more willingly walking into a prision state?

Or though I'd love to see the upsides and the opportunities. I'm honestly failing to see any in this current situation.

This seems like a fairly bleak outlook for the future.

I never said I have all the ideas. I'm just not defeatist.

I can't remember where I read it. However, I think it makes a lot of sense.
One of the most important elements to freedom and security was having a close network of friends within your own community, no matter where you live.
That doesn't always mean your relatives either. They can be your biggest obstruction.
Even through an authoritarian government, as a community you can not only survive, but thrive.

Think about it, here on SS.
One of the biggest advantages here, you can buy, swap and sell at relative ease knowing that you are buying and selling to a network of people like minded with a reputation. IMO that is pure gold especially when you need to liquidate some of your assets quickly.
