Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could guesstimate on a value of a 1913 p half sovereign, in what I would consider to be excellent condition as it has been locked away for over 65 years by an elderly relative. I have not been able to find it in the McDonalds book. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
 
It wont be a 1913P cause they were not minted in Australia for that year,,if your eyesight is failing :D and it happens to be a 1918P then your sitting on anything from $4000-$9000,,but there is only a few hundred of those in existance,,generally common dated half sovs fetch about $225-250

The P is on the ground that the horses hoof is standing,allways between the 19 and the 13 of the date,just above,,do be mistaken by the BP which is at the right hand end of the lower ground just below

i pinched a half sov pic from ebay,you can easily see the letter between the 9 and the 0 of the date,you can also see the BP at about 5 o'clock on the coin

yep, already been there, the 2 letters I am told are the designer initials. The only mistake I can think of is that it is a full sov!? I did not measure it or weigh it, was only told it was a 1/2 as it was given to my relly by a great uncle around 1943 and at that time the family was told it was a 1/2... will have to wait and see...
 
Thanks for your inputs, turns out the "p" was correct and so was the year but it is in fact a full sov! My uncle had believed it was a half sov for over 65 years!
 
The 1913 sovereign with P - Perth mint mark had a mintage of 4,635,287 and is classed as "common".
Weight is 7.988 grams with a pure gold content of 7.3224 grams.
Selling price to a good dealer will likely be 95-98% of spot gold price.
Selling on fee-Bay might get you an extra 10-15% which they will grab in fees.
