Help regarding silver hallmark date

I was hoping somebody could assist me with the hallmark date on my Grandfather's cigarette case that I found whilst going through some boxes today.

I know everything else from the marks but I'm having slight trouble with the date as I'm not sure if it's 1917 or 1942

42 has sharp points on the S .... 17 has blunt

So the consensus is 1942?

It cleaned up nicely with the baking soda/foil method
