Help identifying coin please

Hi all,

Does anyone know what is this coin? Not sure if it's Chinese or Taiwanese. My mum mentioned it was used as legal tender back then. It's chunky, i don't think anyone would want to carry too many of these in the pocket.

The details on the coin looks very poor compared to the photos in the article. Is it fake?
 
Thanks for that. I don't think she bought it. Might have been given as a souvenir.
The details looks very low quality. Had some of doubt when i saw the first time.
 
I am sure it's a faked one but may be worth to test its content as some old faked coins may contained silver. The latest faked coins (copper-nickel) can be easily sourced from China at around $2 dollars each.
