Hand pour hobby thread

I like this bar, it has an ancient look about it. Do you char the wood mold before pouring

Cheers m8, means allot.

No charring or flame soot on the inside of the wood mold. Just straight pour into it. Use once and throw away.

I am going to have to have a go at that. I will route out a wooden button mold with the drill press and put some pics up. might even make a video.

Get one crankin. Love your vids.

I tried my luck at pouring into a wooden mold yesterday, I didn't have much luck the wood was moist and it erupted every where. I ended up with a little cone shaped bar and shot everywhere.. you can see it on my you tube channel and a few pics here.

You kill me bro..

The cussing when it exploded wasn't as loud as I expected..

A few days ago I thought about taking this up as a hobby .... for a nanosecond. After seeing this I'm glad I opted for the sensible decision. That is just a tad scary. :D

Look up Silverfox on youtube,he only pours a few 1-2oz bars from scrap and they have no swirls.

Mind you he puts a "lot" of time and effort into finishing his bars which still look home poured but the reason I dont mind the premium on a few purchases!

I've seen his videos, and yes, he does put a lot of work into polishing his bars. (I think he does get swirls, but sands them off) But he needs to polish his bars because his metal is not very high purity. He claims it was assayed at .999, but I think that's optimistic. (Though his later efforts do look to be much better quality)

He only does the first step of refining, which despite the effort he puts into washing the result, won't be much better than 99%. (According to what I've seen and read, and from my personal experience) In my process, I follow that up with two electrorefining steps, and the result should be more like 99.99%.

Sreeips on youtube also double electrorefines and gets a perfect result, straight out of the mold. Check out his work here:-

That's the quality that I'm aiming for...
I am a silverfox fan myself, but i am a little dubious of the .999 claim on the silver using the copper as well.
I see he picks out the large buts of copper BUT NO MATTER how careful you are there is ALWAYS going to be copper left with your silver using this refining process.
No matter how careful you are all the copper can not be removed.
I would like to see some of the early .999 assay certs but i have a feeling they are not available.
The purity will be high but .999? i think not.

I can guarantee anyone who is worried about the purity of my silver that it is 999+, my process is constant, quality control practices are always observed and the assay results don't lie.

Go to the trade section and put it up :) last bid at time end you give is winner, you then contact winner by personal message with total price inc postage and your bank details/paypal acc. Buyer will respond when money is transferred with their postage details. :)
