Anyone know the legality of trading gold plated coins that are replicas of real bullion coins? My thinking is selling replica legal tender probably breaks some law, Australian bullion coins are legal tender so selling replica bullion coins would be considered the same no?

it has been covered many times on the forum and yes if there is denomination on the back....

Sorry, I did search but couldn't find what I was looking for. So yes they are illegal if identical to the bullion coin and make no attempt to distinguish itself from the genuine thing?

If you see examples of them being sold without the word REPLICA on them, just call the Currency Team at the AFP and report counterfeit currency being sold.

Reporting them on eBay just gets the listing taken down. It is a federal crime to possess or offer counterfeits in Australia - all eBay does is take down the listing, they won't report it to authorities.

I dare the Perth mint to go over there and shut them down, good luck with that one :D they may never be seen again

It shits me so little is down to clamp down on this crap.

I'd devote my emotions to the real counterfeiters out there.

Ok I will ask who are the real counterfeiters?

Who do you think is destroying your wealth and diluting your purchasing power?

And it's not China.

Its tolerated because the powers to be dont want you to have PMs, and would rather you buy fake! see how tolerant the authorities are if you distributing $20 or $50 notes even when you are unaware they are not real!
