Germany to repatriate gold

Well according to the source website, Handelsblatt, the story is "Exklusiv" so there are no other source yet. They do claim an official announcement is coming in the next 1-2 days though.

Long tungsten

So when you collect gold bars these days do you have to specify "soft centres or hard" like a box of chocs?

Be prepared for the US to claim it was lost in a shipping accident on the way across 'the pond' :/

Don't they know that gold is for barbarians and real gentlemen stuff their vaults with bits of paper?

But seriously, I think the ZH summary is sensationalist (what's new) because it is not very clear how much gold will really be requested, and over what time frame. For example, it is possible only a small percentage will be requested and that they will have a few months to make delivery.

I think the more pressing info is that they want all of their gold back from France -which you think they'd be less worried about since it's right next door.

Time to get this lot back perhaps?

Between the This, RawDog selling his stack, Obama fighting over the bloody debt ceiling abgain and the way the Japanese Finance minister repeatedly puts his (what can only be explained as) peppermint-flavoured feet in his mouth.... there's only 1 way for PM's to go.... and looking at the chaarts...that's where they're going.

One wonders how much of the "German" gold is actually theirs and how much was actually "acquired" should we say in war ?

If there is any taint there at all you can blame it on the Allies,

The history of the Bundesbank is inextricably linked with the history of the German currency after the Second World War. Following the total destruction after the war, the old Reichsmark was practically worthless, and a currency reform was implemented in the western occupation zones including West Berlin: on 21 June 1948, the D-Mark, or Deutsche Mark, replaced the Reichsmark. The currency reform was based on laws enacted by the Allied military government. In preparation, the Western Powers established a new two-tier central bank system in the occupied zones; in its federal structure, it was modeled on the Federal Reserve System of the USA. It comprised the central banks of the states (Lnder) of the West German occupation zones and the Bank deutscher Lnder in Frankfurt am Main, which was created on 1 March 1948.

There is now more press coverage, however they are regurgitations of the original article from the German newpaper Handelsblatt.

9am Germany is in about 6 hours or so, which is when the official announcement is supposedly taking place. Spot watchers get your popcorn.
