Found a box of old coins in the garage

So...I found a box of old coins in the garage and was wondering if anyone knows a good way to check and see if any of them hold some sort of value?
Not too keen on looking up each coin on the internet :/

I know some should have a bit of value...hopefully :P

There's a couple of aussie penny pendants (silver plated or replica??)
An original condition 1958 penny from perth (dot after the penny)
Old german (Bundesrepublik)
Old singapore and PNG coins
Old US (Quarters half dollars with kennedy head)

seems you even know more numis value that i do..

i'd say bring the coins to your local coin shop and let them sort for ya : )
 
I was calling them old because they're 60s and 70s dated, which (considering i'm a 90s kid) is fairly old, but they're not 1800s or anything.

Oldest coin I've found so far is an 1897 British shilling (assuming its british cos its got the 3 coat of arms..irish, british and scottish i think?)
Any ideas of its value?
 
From what you have said none seem to be particularly valuable.. you never know but i certainly wouldn't expect any gems in there.. most sound like they are base metal and probably not old enough to have much numi value...

I hope the outcome exceeds your expectations as the reverse sucks.

Nahh, wasn't expecting much out of them, moreso looking to see if any had any silver content, wouldn't wanna be throwing those out.

I've found a few polish 200 zloty coins, some with jon paul 2 on them, apparently they have some silver in them but can anyone confirm this? I'll try getting some pics up on this thread soon.

if you mean these then weigh them if they are around 28.3g then you have some very nice coins!

oh and they are silver, melt value is about $14 as it is .75 silver

Everything depends on condition. If you say "original condition" 1958Y. It could be worth a few dollars, it could be a proof even, if so then you have a few extra dollars.

The silver plated ones are really just for show and ruined any numis value. Unless it is a 1930 or 1925 otherwise keep for memories.

In the balance of Pennies look for the older ones and any that are in good condition, this is where you will get your money. If they are old and well worn not a great deal of value and most go for somewhere from $20 - $50kg I have seen. If there is any green on them (verdigris) then make sure you separate these otherwise it will spread to all of your coins.

When handling, handle the edges and not the flat part of the coin. DO NOT CLEAN ANY OF THEM !

Good luck some photo's of some pennies will help asses for you as well. Nice find.
 
Thanks for the confirmation goldpelican, doubt it'd be worth more than scrap as its pretty well worn, but silver is still silver :P
 
Kind of sucks that in 50 years when people die off we will leave our kids with what? clad coins, fiat currency, bunch of cell phones, and lots of debt.

I'm under 30.. when i die in 50 years or so (and if i have kids) :p or grandkids will be left a note informing them grandpa was a pirate.. along with a map to my hidden treasure :D
And also used phones and a life times collection of crap lol :p
 
Yep, you can't even pass down decent furniture because it is all MDF or chipboard, plus you will have to sell everything in order to pay the next round of levies.
