Easy lesson:While German law also allows finders of a "treasure" to keep half of it, the containers were apparently buried recently and could not legally be considered a lost treasure.
"As this is not a lost object that the man had found, he is also not entitled to a reward," the court said.
"You can only find what had been lost."
Maybe...honest, but no too honestLeave you wondering of honesty is the best policy.
That does sound like a logical decision by the court. If the coins were minted in 2016 it’s not likely that the person that buried them has forgotten about them.
a fool and his money are soon parted... he he he... in this case, we have two separate fools, who were not holding their stack, and as a result, they both ended up owning nada
Just because some pieces were modern does not unclassify them as treasure. Also, because they were intentionally buried and simply did not fall out of somebody's pocket does not mean they were not lost.
The fact the original owner is unknown means they are definitely lost to posterity and such a high value is the definition of treasure. Just because a buccaneer did not bury them in the 16th century is hogwash.
