'Feeb..' whoops I mean 'eBay' auction...

After selling a silver bar on ebay & stating in the BIGGEST writing possible in the description, "FREE postage when paying by direct bank deposit - contact for postage price before bidding if you want to use another payment method."

Someone buys the bar (doesn't contact before bidding), then stupidly pays with paypal - then wants free postage.

What would you do?


A- Try & reason with the guy (unlikely to happen)
B- Refund his paypal (whether he likes it or not)
C- Block his ebay account so he doesn't do this again.
D- Block his account, steal his money & run off to Jamaica.
 
I've had that happen twice - both times I've explained that free postage was only available for direct deposit, and that they need to pay the additional postage. Both times they paid.
 
refund his money (very easy in paypal) and send him a note explaining the situation
 
I've had it happen a few times too. Mixed response each time.

This time the guy is a silverstackers member, which concerns me a little...

Why pay with paypal (screwing me over with extra fees) when you know me on the forum???
 
Perhaps you were being too clever.

If I was a buyer and had spare cash in PayPal, I'd try to get free postage.

Maybe you should list your postage and then the buyer would see the saving that they can make through direct deposit.
 
B mate. Needs to be taught a lesson. I saw what you put up on Ebay and it was clear as anything with ANZ or to contact.

Then SilverSale has to suffer unfair bad feedback. Ebay not sympathetic towards sellers.

But I think I'm now happy to roll with it - eBay has raped people with excessive fees for too long (including their now fully integrated fee stealing machine commonly known as 'paypal').

What I am trying to say is... Goodbye eBay!

When I said 'roll with it' I was meaning I don't care what feedback I am given. I'm not giving cheap silver bars to idiots that don't bother to read the auction.

Yep, that is how I do it too.

I use paypal whenever I am buying on eBay as it faster and offers more buyer protection for me.

The price and shipping costs in the advertisement should assume that the buyer will use the default payment method of Paypal, which will also allow a buyer to pay via Paypal at the time of winning the auction, rather than having to wait for the seller to provide an updated invoice.

I think that you will find if you complain to eBay about this then they will find you in the wrong.

Just for the record, I am not the buyer, although I sympathise with them :)
 
Normally you should refund paypaled amount and ask for DD for free postage.

Seeing that the SPOT has fallen, might as well keep the paypaled amount and send it to him for free.
Otherwise if you refund the money the buyer may change his mind and cancel auction.

Exactly, dont become a victim of feedback extorsion.

Some people will do anything for good feedback!

I have had people who have not even paid for the item give me bad feedback.... (eBay will remove this at your request however)
 
You know the fees as a seller.
Often sellers don't answer questions during an auction.
Buyers prefer PayPal because it offers protection against bad sellers.

With that in mind perhaps you should have included a P&P cost and then adjusted the invoice
for a payment other than PayPal.
 
Photon, it is up to the buyer to clarify any questions before bidding - they shouldn't be bidding if they do not agree to the terms, or are unsure if anything.
