Did they offer a workaround?
@BelfastChild, if you don't mind, when did you last use that declaration?
Strangely, why VAT on GOLD in UK? Limit to 2.75 OZ!This is still a tax based comment but going off topic a bit..sorry.
I'll be heading back to Ireland / England soon and was interested in picking up Silver on my travels.
You're changed 20% VAT (gst) on Silver but it was my understanding you can claim it back when leaving the Country.
Had a look at the appropriate tax website which unfortunately states....
Goods you cannot get a refund for
You cannot get a VAT refund for:
Looks like I'll be restricted to buying from Shady Shamus at the back of the pub
- most mail order goods, including internet sales, delivered outside of Northern Ireland
- goods you’ve already used in Northern Ireland or the EU, such as perfume
- service charges, such as hotel bills
- new or used cars
- goods exported for business purposes where you need to make a customs declaration
- goods to be exported as freight
- goods that need an export licence (except antiques)
- unmounted gemstones
- gold or silver over 125g, 2.75 troy ounces or 10 tolas
- a boat you plan to sail to a destination outside the UK or the EU.

There was an advantage of buying from overseas, but it is no more now....^^^
yes, that has 10yuan…which means coin has numismatic value. If yours panda coins were already here when you bought them..yes, you’d be GST-free…
why did they come in a FedEX parcel? From overseas? thus…categoried as import.
Is that numismatic value, or does it only indicate the coin is considered legal tender in the country of issue?^^^
yes, that has 10yuan…which means coin has numismatic value
those coins/bars are already in AUS, thus, no extra GST is to be applied …CCS thread talking about IMPORTing coins from overseas, which have numismatic value, ie. yuan (or USD or whatever you wanna call it), and even you bought some AUS kangas/koalas/emus/crocs/etc/etc from overseas dealers..these are subject to GSTBecause if it counts as numismatic then those old milky 2016 roos and maples which sell for not much over spot would be GST applicable as well...
