fake pamp 1kg bar?

Bars or coins, plastic pipes it's all the same.

In theory yes, in practice coins do not do well with the sort of devices we are talking here for a couple of reasons:

- irregular surface of the coin makes it hard to get a correct measurement
- thickness of the coin is too little when compared to the accuracy of the meter for a reliable measurement.

..buy from a reputable dealer so you know what you are getting is the real mccoy.

You might want to make sure the reputable retailer has acquired the bullion directly from a reputable mint.

If you arent sure about buying these PAMP's, pay the extra few dollars and buy from a reputable dealer so you know what you are getting is the real mccoy. How much lower was the PAMP from the person in this face-to-face trade than a reputable dealer? $20? $30? Honestly, just pay the extra 20 bucks if you are worried about fakes so you dont get stomach ulcers from worrying about it.

think It was like $60 cheaper so i thought i had a great deal.
Think it was worth while to check it out but didnt take the risk in the end

usually the ugly one is for real the shinny one is the one you should be suspicious

Hey guy just want to ask for some opinion on pamp suisse cast 1 kg silver bars.

I recently had a f2f trade for some 1kg pamp bars and I did some basic testing on it and decided not to buy them. Basically the bars looked exactly same as my bar bought from bullion dealer except the "f" and the "r" prints on the edge of "fine silver" wasnt very deep and the back of the bar looks slighly poorer finish.

Secondly the measurements on the bar was 2mm wider and longer but 2mm thinner compared to my bar (my bar measured spot on with the specifications off pamp website)

The bars were exactly 1 kg

Lastly the bars had a much lower (very obviously different) pitch and short ring to it compared to my silver on a ring test.

Hence I didnt buy them but the seller insist he bought them from a reputably dealer and its just a different batch.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this and whether these bars are fake

I would put money on them being real, very few 1Kg Silver fakes out there. Just buy the bars on the condition that the seller will allow you to return them within 24hrs should they be fake. Then just take them to your local bullion dealer and ask them if they would be willing to buy them off you, if they say yes then no probs just keep them. Don't tell the dealer you bought them off someone privately and thought they might be shady, just say you were given these bars from family and wanted to know what they are worth.

I actually saw these bars off ebay and the guy had plenty to sell apparently, the seller had since taken the bars off ebay after I met him in person. So can't even buy one and test it anymore:/

I suspected one of my PAMPS may have been fake - so I got it drilled and XRF'd ... and found out it was real (a happy and sad moment).

Sold it for spot since it had been drilled.

But at least I had the reassurance that the others were likely to be genuine!

Lol. What made u think it was fake.

And also whats all this xrf and ultrasound testing. Are the 100% accurate?

Would they show up that fake gold bar filled with tungsten uploaded earlier?

This PAMP just looked and felt a little different from the others I had... so they drilled it about half way through... then put the bar and the drilled filings through the XRF.

The drilling would have likely detected a tungsten/lead filled bar.
