Fake coins.

Hey guys.

The 1972 Krugerrand 1oz and the 1886 10 rubles are definitely fake.











Do you think the $100 canadian, 5 gulden and $5 nugget are fake also or real?

 
Thanks for the ideas. the first option is $$ but would be worth it but not up to that level of collecting yet.

Second option is a bit cheaper but not as good. Both good options !
 
So at least learn some simple checks - like rare-earth magnet and sound tests (magnets are cheap and sound tests are available via apps). Also, be very cautious where you by. Measure density (i.e. volume/dimensions and weight).

For my money, the fakes are too good and getting better.
 
Just get a cheap set of scales and electric caliper from ebay, and the check the size and weight, that should detect most of the fakes
 
That's what I thought until I saw a tungsten drilled bar. Weight, size and measurements were almost exact.

Cut it in half and there's rods of tungsten inside.

You can't do that to small coins or bars, and it is much harder to do with anything minted. Even so, if someone can exploit something, they will.
 
Thanks good ideas. So if buying a 1kg silver bar. What tests would you use.

Magnet? Weigh it ? Measure it? android sound test?
 
I can't find any kilo silver bars in that topic.

But 1oz bars.. luckily they are not really popular here in Europe.
