Fake 1924 sixpence

Was sorting through an old stash of sixpences and found what I am sure is a fake 1924 sixpence. The obverse and reverse are WAY out of sink when compared to any other 6d, plus the details are odd scale compared to a real one. The details are well worn, but that looks to be deliberate rather than years .

Anyone know about this coin ever being faked .. and why a 1924?

Btw, the can of old coins came from a elderly collector who was putting pre-decimal away during the period of those coins being in circulation, so it's not a modern (current) fake.

You may be correct. I'd be suprised if anyone would really want to fake a 1924 6d .. catalogue states not much value in that date.

A 1918 or 1922 like Antalon has linked, now those seem have some value.
 
"Upset coin" error is nothing new, that's the term... do a google. Looks about 35 degrees. Pre-decimals commonly have some slight variance between sides.

It is highly unlikely to be a fake. Super worn... coin is not highly valuable in that condition. Story also says highly unlikely. Looks silver, strike looks right, wear looks right.
 
I remember reading about a Chinese guy that was caught counterfeiting Australian silver coins, back in the 20's
I'm sorry I cannot recall exactly where I read it, it may have been an old article on the Trove database, or I could be totally wrong.

Anyway, I think you should have that sixpence checked out just in case.
It does look odd.

Ive broken my wide angle lens sorry. This sixpence has a sloppy star and an Orb on top of the Kings Crown that looks nothing like the original. Many fakes were produced from 1926-1932 so its not unusual to find an earlier example
A good read on the internet is in regards to the Manders and Twible fakes
