ethereum

Now at ~ $13.43. It did briefly reach about $15.40 on some smaller exchanges. I don't think there will be much major movement until POS date/details confirmed.

Step aside bitcoin, there is a new blockchain kid in town.

In recent days, the world's second most popular digital currency, Ethereum, has been surging (despite its embarrassing hack last June when some $59 million worth of "ethers" were stolen forcing the blockchain to implement a hard fork to undo the damage), prompting many to wonder if some big announcement was imminent. It appears that yet again someone "leaked" because on Monday, an alliance of some of the world's most advanced financial and tech companies including JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Intel and more than two dozen other companies teamed up to develop standards and technology to make it easier for enterprises to use blockchain code Ethereum - not bitcoin - in the latest push by large firms to move toward the holy grail of a post-central bank world in which every transaction is duly tracked: a distributed ledger systems.

In total, some 30 companies are set to announce on Tuesday the formation of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, which will create a standard version of the Ethereum software that businesses around the world can use to track data and financial contracts. This will be a huge boost to the recently sagging credibility of the technology, which suffered substantial damage during last summer's previously noted hack, when nearly half the value of Ethereum was wiped out overnight.

According to Reuters, the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) will work to "enhance the privacy, security and scalability of the Ethereum blockchain, making it better suited to business applications", according to the founding companies. Members of the 30-strong group also include Accenture Plc, Banco Santander, BP Plc, Credit Suisse Group AG, UBS Group AG, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, ING Groep NV, Bank of New York Mellon Corp , Thomson Reuters Corp (and startups ConsenSys and BlockApps.

The mix of new money and 'sell the news' will make it an interesting few days.

up at about 40 USD now... why do i watch these things and never buy any!! and dash is up around 100 atm.
I saw dash go up, and thought eth will follow, i should get some.
i don't know where to get any, or how it all works, i tried a while ago, and failed. maybe it's time i give it another go. :)
what's the next one that is gunna take ? Monero? litecoin?
I see ethereum classic... Is that the same type of thing regular eth?

I need to go for a ride on digital currencies some time, it looks like a lot of fun.

48USD as I type this - I think Ethereum still has the most potential even at current prices, there is a lot upcoming as more major corporations join the EEA and make announcements, when zksnarks are introduced, when new Dapps are developed, when the shift to POS happens etc.

And in short stay clear of ethereum classic.

Don't try time the market just hold long term for what you see has actual utility.

Of course it could all come crashing down tomorrow.

It is quite the ride. Have done better in the last couple weeks then the last 3 years of PM investing. It's not all that complicated. Basic steps is to register for a wallet that you can buy bitcoin. Coinbase accepts debit card and is the easiest. Next transfer the bitcoin to an exchange like Poloniex and good luck from there. Trading is fast pace and wild, if you venture from the top 10 cryptos into some of the randoms things can go really good or really bad fast. Lots of fun and something to do while we wait for our silver tarnish.

Etherium Classic is basically ethereums outdated and buggy coin before they Forked. Its basically used for nothing besides being traded with the Ethereum association. I would say don't buy but it's gone up like %40 in a couple days so what do I know. Good luck!

"anyone bought recently?

looks like the boat has been missed according to the graph, has doubled from $2.30 to over $4 in the past week."

$98 odd buck's US , Imagine buying 1000 of them a year back huh ?

Well, not alot of PM bugs like to dabble in cryptos.

I didn't buy enough when it was cheap. But I'm glad I bought other alt-coins when they were cheap.

Get a KeepKey.

It now supports Ethereum and a few currencies. Great security and very usable. Unless you specifically need a mobile wallet (can't imagine what for) then look no further, especially if you're dealing with large amounts.

Thanks. Have looked into that. My concern was if the hardware failed due to a manufacturing issue etc. Does that mean all the info goes with it too?

Ok, ignore that. You can recover with a saved password.

Apparently only available on Amazon and currently out of stock.

I got mine shipped from the US. Cost me a bit for shipping but definitely worth it for peace of mind.

You can generate your own BIP39 mnemonic with this tool :-

https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/

You want 12 words, download the page and do it offline for greatest security. Then you "restore" the cold wallet using those 12 words and it will handle all your keys for the supported currencies. If you lose the device or it breaks you can restore any device with those 12 words.

There are others like Trezor or Ledger Nano, but I think the KeepKey is best.

is there any early adaptor who has so much ether to give some away in a trade with gold.
