I’ve got a bit of a random question for fellow silver stackers and Engelhard fans.
I recently picked up a handful of Engelhard Prospector 1 oz silver round and something’s been bugging me ever since… which side is actually the obverse and which is the reverse?
Traditionally, the obverse is considered the “front” and usually features the main design or portrait. On the Prospector round, one side shows the classic prospector with his donkey, panning gear in hand — the iconic Engelhard image. The other side has the large “E” globe logo with “Engelhard” and the weight/purity markings.
From what I understand, the prospector side is technically considered the obverse, since it’s the primary design and the one most people associate with the series. The logo side would then be the reverse.
But honestly? In my opinion, the logo side looks so much better.
There’s just something about that bold “E” over the globe — it has such a strong vintage bullion vibe. It feels clean, symmetrical, and instantly recognizable. The prospector design is classic, no doubt, but the logo side just pops more to me visually.
Am I the only one who feels this way? When you display your Prospector rounds, which side do you face up? Do you go with the technically correct obverse, or the side you personally like better?
Curious to hear how everyone else sees it.
