engelhard 10 oz silver bar

Generally yes but all depends on the condition, style and price. Pic?

Vintage Engelhard bars command a premium and very old and rare ones can get ridiculously expensive. Newer issues you should only pay about $1.50/oz over spot for, at least here in the US.

I don't know where heyimderrick is able to find newer 10 oz engelhard bars for only $1.50 over spot, but I dont see that. Even apmex will buy those bars from you for $2.50 over spot. I frequently search for them on ebay and the cheapest I can find is about $5 over spot, and I considered it a good deal when someone on another forum sold me one for $3 over spot. Whoever is selling them for only $1.50 I would love to know.

Engelhard and Johnson Matthey are generally considered the most desirable, with Engelhard being just slightly more so.

I have a hard time considering Engelhard bars as anything other than bullion. I know the Prospector rounds have developed a small premium but shy of what we would call semi-numi, ditto the poured bars. But in answer to your question, if you're gonna buy silver, Englehard will certainly do. Short of buying some insanely overpriced POS "collectors" piece from the Franklin Mint (or equal), can't think of any bad buys for silver. Keep it real silver and keep it close to spot and you'll be fine.

An Engelhard silver bar is just another silver bar--period. A Duesenberg SJ is just another car--period. No possible argument with either of those two points.

On buying Engelhard bars for $1.50 over spot in the US... I'd love to know where they're available for that price. Please advise me via SS forum PM of the names, phone#s or website addresses of vendors selling Engelhard stuff for $1.50 over spot.

$1.50/per ounce over spot, and at local coin shows, it just depends on the bar. The vintage loafs and rare bars command much higher premiums, but the more modern the bar, the lower the premium. All things are negotiable. A dealer may ask $4/oz over spot and you can get it down to $2/oz over.

I don't know what part of the US you're in, but I know for a fact that Engelhard bars (even the last ones made) never go for anywhere near as little as $1.50 over spot in the NE. The last ones made were the 1oz and 10oz Eagle logo portrait mode bars, the second-to-last ones made were the 1oz and 10oz Big E logo portrait mode bars, and even those are usually offered at shows for $5 or more over spot. When I've tried to negotiate the premium level, the show vendors smile patronizingly and refuse to negotiate price. Their attitude (which most of them will explain articulately) is that somebody will show up and pay what they're asking, and they're quite content to wait for that to happen. I'd like to see Engelhard bars selling for $1.50 or $2 over spot. I keep cruising the shows and dealers in my region, but it just hasn't happened up here in over a couple years.

Where are these shows where I can find Engelhard bars for $1.50 or $2 over spot?

I live near Chicago. I go to a monthly local show where I know several of the dealers. Maybe my relationships with them have allowed me to get better pricing. Show is the second Sunday of every month, so if you're looking for something, PM me and I am happy to look for you.

This may be a bigger city thing. I live in an area of about 500K people that has a monthly show of about 55 dealers on about 85 tables. PM sent.
