Why are you guys so forceful about this, just leave the guy bad rep and move on. That is how to use ebay.

You're sending money to someone who doesn't want your money, this is ridiculous.

I am forcing the issue. I don't have any risk as my credit card company has always backed me up on anything. The seller was really foolish to immediately relist the coins while also claiming that they had been sold. And you can't leave bad feedback if the transaction gets cancelled. By paying, I should be able to leave feedback. And I want to see what ebay does. If they don't make the seller either complete the transaction or ban him permanently, then I know there is no reason to do further business with ebay.

is the seller in the USA? where you are located.

if he is not, you may need to move on, as paying via Paypal and currency conversion is not worth the effort.

Once I got a dispute, seller sold me fake, got refund, but ended up paying for round trip posts and currency conversions, not worth it.
That is why now I never make immediate payment via Paypal again, unless I have dealing with seller in the past.

cost considerations!

u may end up with an empty box in the mail and a loose your cash

thats happend to me b4 but becase they keep the postage reciept and u sign for the package b4 u look in it you loose

No, the weight differential would give that away. The seller is dumb enough to relist the coins just hours after he claimed they were sold, so I wouldn't give him much credit for intelligence.

I would have to agree with you :)

Or instead of 80 Kookaburra coins you get a box that contains 80 ounces of sand in bags. Why the sand? Because the weight on the postage receipt will show 80 ounces and then it will also show your signature as accepting the package. Therefore the seller can claim the postage weight was correct for what you bought and also show your signature for registered mail. Always use your credit card when buying things of the net, then you can use chargeback with your credit card which is a far better buyer protection than anything paypal/ebay claim to have.

Anything is possible, but you guys are giving this person too much credit. Sand would act differently in the box. Besides, this guy is not an Einstein. Like I said, he relisted the coins for sale just hours after he stated he had already sold them. I do pay by credit card. If I ever did get a package in this type of situation, I will open it in front of the UPS driver and immediately file a fraud claim if the items(s) is not as described.

So who are you trying to punish here..???? the seller because he has relisted and renegged on your deal?? or Ebay because you are wanting to see if they back you up or not???? either way sounds like you are trying to force one of these guys.....IMHO you are better off spending your time on the next deal somewhere......

white-metal-man I expect ebay will do nothing and then I will stop using ebay. No big loss for me. Most of my purchases in the last 2-3 years have been NZ & AU proofs and I have about all those I want to buy. I can still use ebay to gauge investor sentiment even if I don't have an account. Ebay is going to lose here one or the other account over this situation. My account is worth more to ebay than the seller's account, but I doubt they will take the time to figure that out. When I sell my silver in the next few years, ebay won't get the business. Probably best to learn about ebay now than when the silver mania phase happens.

I am planning on paying later this afternoon through paypal with a credit card.

I understand that you forfeit any claims through your credit card provider by using it to pay PayPal.
The only options for refund are determined by PayPal.
Check the very fine print before assuming your credit card Company would step in if there is a payment dispute.
Paying the seller with a credit card is a different proposition and you would be covered.

I have no knowledge of whether you are right or wrong on the credit card/pay pal issue. But, if they don't back you, you can always refuse to pay the credit card bill . Just in the last year, I took on an Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, the largest law firm in my state and Chesapeake Energy and beat all of them without an attorney. So, I am not worried about the credit card payment issue. I am curious what ebay will do in a situation where the seller is obviously refusing to sell the coins at the auction price. Like I posted earlier, I suspect they will not ban the seller, but then they will lose my business. This particular issue is not worth much of my time, so whatever ebay says when I talk to them will be the end of it for me. I know the seller is not going to ever ship the coins, so I have already left him negative feedback. The seller appears to be a one coin at a time occasional seller who made one large sale that blew up in his face. I suspect he will return to one coin at a time sales after he sells these kooks. I will post whatever ebay says, but I think we can guess what they will say.

I've paid for things using one of my credit cards. I dont even bother with PayPal for a refund with things dont arrive, just go straight to my credit card company and do a chargeback, no problem. Ebay or PayPal, I forget which, even warn sellers that a person can do a chargeback via PayPal and there's nothing they can do about it. They estimate 5% of sales using PayPal result in a chargeback.
