Everyone has their own opinion but as I stated in a previous post ... counterfeiting is rampant with all rare, high value coins, not just Chinese Pandas.
The average panda isn't that rare, recent pandas have very high mintages.
I wish the crappy 1,200 ASE's I purchased in January would have been Chinese Pandas, at least any Pandas dated earlier that 2009 do not fluctuate with PM's like ASE's & Maples.
I agree, there are much better options than ASE's
If a person is going to buy numismatic items, they need to learn and know what they are buying, it just takes a little research is all.
Agree, I avoid coins that already demand a high premium, I look for bullion coins with a limited mintage and numismatic potential such as the Canadian wildlife series and Perth mint lunars and kooks.
Yes I have and do still buy simple, common bullion but I also enjoy the 300 graded gold/silver/platinum pandas that I own as well ... they have FAR outperformed any of the bullion I own.
Well done, it's a good feeling when you own a well performing assest. I have also enjoyed watching some of my coins appriciate over spot and I don't own a single Panda.
In the end, a person has to be comfortable with what they buy ... there are alot of choices so if someone doesnt like Pandas well there is always common bullion.
If someone doesn't like Pandas, they still have plenty of options other than common bullion.
It's a matter of choice
And there's alot to choose from so choose wisely
Good luck and happy collecting
