eBay Buyer Scam!!!

Recently fell victim of a eBay scam;

Buyer buy stuff from oversea and make sure the seller didn't/couldn't send item as registered, presumably buyer received item and after 35-45 days right before the dead line the buyer will open an 'item not received case' on paypal. Note the buyer open a dispute on paypal without contacting the seller. At this point this isn't much the seller can do except to wait for the case to be decided by paypal which as we all know will be in favour of the buyer.

And recently the buyer is targeting local sellers, buying small amount at first to see how the sellers send their items. The buyer then basically repeat the process on more expensive items and if the seller happens to send it as registered mail, he/she would make up some bs excuse and return the item.

I am now in contact with over 10 victims and trying to gather as much information as possible before reporting it to the proper authorities and yes we do have the buyer's name and physical address.

Guess it's partly my fault for not sending items as registered but just want fellow stackers to watch out.
 
Not completely pointless, the mechanics are exposed and worth knowing.

It peeves me that PayPal will so happily ONLY listen to the "buyer", it's about time they learned proper arbitration and some rigorous investigation in respect of chargebacks ... proof of postage essential eh?

Actually providing name of the buyer is pointless as anyone can run the scam.

It was an international transaction so communication with the guy was slower than it should have been. He did provide a tracking number but it was useless. Instead of 6 coins received the sealed package arrived with 6 empty plastic coin sleeves. His only evidence was that he posted the package and he provided that to paypal.
Ppal took his word over mine and said tough luck buddy you are now $1700 down.
Logic, common sense, Mastercard and the truth were on my side and karma prevailed.

Keep all documentation as they try again to get the money after things calm down, mine did.

did you have a weight on a package?

I'm mostly selling on eBay, and ship the items above $50 with registered mail only. So far had 2 coins undelivered both in their $30s - one is Israeli another is US ... one coin out 3 was stolen in Russia ...
 
You would think once a buyer has lodged over a certain number of disputes / claims to compared to orders it would be enough to raise a red flag at paypal
