Im looking to start investing in some gold and silver coins for my family future, but know very little. What id like to know is are there any tip or tricks for telling the authenticity of gold/silver coins? for instance is there anyway to tell the difference between a real american gold buffalo vs the cheesy as seen on tv ones? are there some reputable dealers online, or ones to stay away from? how much above spot should i expect to pay? Like i said I'm very new at this so please forgive my ignorance, any info is appriciated.

First introduce yourself in the "new members" section.

As for what you want sounds like you're in Amerika, so buy from a reputable dealer like apmex or providence etc. Buy low premium and items that are easy to resell.

You can get them XRF tested at a local bullion dealer bite best way is to buy from reputable dealers. If you're in the US, APMEX and JM Bullion are good and if in Aus, Perth Bullion and Goldstackers.

There's no set price above spot but obviously shop around until you get as close to it as possible.

Welcome.

Lots of things look like gold or are advertised to make them sound like gold, you can get some good bargains or you could lose a lot of money.

Until you get more experience just stick to the big players and hope they are not having a bad day.

Good idea to softly bite gold coins. If they taste like chocolate, it's a fake.
