A mix is good. Bullion coins and a selection of carefully chosen numismatics is good for me.

^This. Though I have been buying too many numismatic coins recently, need to save up some money to buy some more low priced bullion coins.

I keep going to the checkout... then bailing on purchasing the Donald Duck 1oz Silver. I just don't know if 80 is worth it when spot is sitting at 12 and my main aim was to build up a stock of physical metal, rather than loads of huge premium coins...

Can anyone relate to this and help?

Everyone goes through this. Then most try to stop but start buying numis again. bullion is just a gateway drug to the hard numis drug. U should buy some numis to keep silver fun. its a gamble that you cant really lose. If u just buy bullion and nothing happens with the silver price for quite some time u might be put off and sell. But if u buy bullion and numis coins you are more likely to say in the game for longer.

Seems like Downies is the only one charging GST even to buyers outside of Australia.

Perth's site doesn't charge GST to people in the US and Direct Coins removes it once you enter a non-Australia shipping address. Also gotta love the fact that Downies doesn't do a Forex conversion on their site, I'm sure they'd much prefer to sell them all overseas on their site as they'd make more money that way.

The Downies site was removing GST at the end of checkout as well for non Australian buyers. At least for us Canadians anyways...I found it funny that Downies charges you the same amount in USD if you have a US shipping address, but everyone else gets charged that $ amount in AUD. Effectively, Americans pay an almost 10% extra when shopping at Downies.
I emailed them and asked about this and was told they were implementing a new platform soon and everyone would just be charged AUD then. Seriously? How hard is it for them to just remove USD from being accepted on the current platform? They aren't stupid, they know they are making that extra 10% or so on every sale to someone in the US. It couldn't take their web people more than 5 minutes to fix that and if it does they should fire them and get new web people.

This and the free shipping is why I waited and ordered a few from Perth Mint.

On the bright side, net amount isnt really 10%, Canadians get charged $30 in shipping, the US gets charged an extra 10% but get free shipping.

I was wasting time trying to get both free shipping and 10% but they sold out by then.

Maybe they "fixed" their system to remove that accidental free shipping to the US? If I log in I also see $30 shipping.

It's free shipping over $500 to the US but $30 to Canada...do you not see that anymore?

Not anymore I guess, shows as $30 in the cart and their shipping page indicates that the US is in Zone C for $30 shipping.

Guys this looks nothing like Donald Duck!!!

Pretty sure that's the old school Donald, not exactly the Donald we are used to seeing. Gold $663 USD for this - good luck with that guys.

I visited Perth Mint last Sunday and saw that they have one gold Micky on display, was tempted to get it but thinking that I won't be able to collect the entire series anyway, don't want to combat on the net every time there is a new release with no garantee that I will get it, so I gave up, but I'm still collecting the silver version.

does anyone know how many coins will be in the series yet?

I believe there is 8 in the set,the first two coins that have been issued are dating the characters back to the first cartoons. The next 6 are evidently colored examples of the newer characters.
Perhaps the NZmint rep thats on here might chime in with whats coming out.
There may not be the same amount of charm to the newer 6,just my opinion

Wow, That brought back memories. That looks exactly like Donald on the gold and silver. Thanks for posting.... It made my night..

First time I watched it was just a couple months back upon learning about the 80th anniversary of the coin coming out...I had however seen steamboat Willie many years ago, as its more widely presented even in present day through parodys parody's like the Simpsons itchy and scratchy and various others. I did enjoy watching both though!

I can confirm Donald duck is the last coin in the Vintage Disney coins series.

The series was a 2 parter; Steamboat Willie, and Donald Duck.

There will be other Disney coins coming from NZ Mint, they will be part of the Disney Series as a whole, but not specifically part of the Vintage Series.

I'm not sure how much info I am allowed to give on those, so I will leave the rest to Brent.

The following is also available publically on the Perth Mint website:
http://www.perthmint.com.au/media-release-perth-mint-releases-disney-inspired.aspx

Scheduled to be unveiled throughout the next two years, the future releases will showcase Disney classic characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas.

Nice to see Downies is listening to these boards, just got an email newsletter indicating that customers in the US will now pay in AUD starting today and California residents will no longer have to pay sales tax.
