Yep, silver and gold mining shares, and trade the spot dips using CFD's then use the proceeds to buy more physical.

I always wondered about this... im just about to start investing with my Etrader account... and was looking at silver and gold companies that i been watching for a while...
then branching out

Not me. They don't pay dividends and if they do ever pay a divvy, it's either a special one-off payment or very tiny.

I may as well be holding physical =_=

*is only in stocks for the high dividends*

I'm in CCU. It's been steadily rising from it's recent lows in the 50s (79.5 at the moment). It's producing silver very soon which makes now a good entry point

Not completely as I see it.... stocks = leverage.

If you are committing money to physical PM's, then you have the same veiw on price direction as the shareholder, but the shareholder will generally make higher returns if this veiw is correct because they are leveraged to the price.

Of course, any pursuit of higher returns is coupled with higher risk, so % allocation is important.

I see your point, but one would have to be comfortable with the risks.
Stocks are open to company risks (bad management, debt, low productivity etc...) where as physical is safely in your hands.

Im out of all shares. There's enough upside in the metal itself, without the counterparty risk of shares. If I had heaps of moula I'd drop a few thousand into each of the promising Aussie mining shares but at the moment I'm struggling to come up with the cash for my car insurence :/

That's right and on any hint of a price rise or increase in investor interest, they damn well raise capital by selling more stock and dilluting your investment. And for all the stocks I have ever owned I've not held a single one in my hand, except for my own companies. I trust the corporate directors, the ASX and whoever the CHESS sponsors are as much as Gerald Celente trusts Jon Corzine.
