Do you like minted or cast?

Hi guys,

It's something I have been thinking about for a while.
Do you guys like cast or minted bars better?

Personally I like the cast stuff, it's somehow got a more "authentic" feel to it.
One of the big reasons I like cast is that I do not need to bother with protective packages and don't stress over small scratches, should they occur.

Purely from a security perspective, I was inclined to think that minted bars would prove harder to tamper with, but the recent tungsten filled 10oz Pamp has obviously proven me wrong. I would be very keen to hear your thoughts on this, and whether one or the other would offer - generally speaking - a great protection against this sorts of risks.

Thanks all

I will pay more for cast over minted anyday. I like the imperfections, character and the history. They have personality.

I think thats why Im not into Numis, everything has to be mint to be valuable / collectable.. = Yawn

Cast mostly for me. That said both cast and minted can both be faked. Rather I like the logic of buying local or national brands that haven't yet had the international spot light shone upon them. You should always be able to sell these at a local level, and I think big time counterfeit operations are far less likely to waste time creating small production runs for a far off market they aren't familiar with. They are more likely to fake the big brands and only seem to be getting better at it.

For 1oz or less, i prefer minted as it is more difficult to fake a minted bar rather than cast and for sizes 1oz or less, not worth the effort to fake.

Cast bars are my favourite. Always on the lookout for old, unusual and extinct brands like Harringtons, Golden West Refinery. :)

Cast is my preferred choice.
Providing you buy from a reputable source you wont loose sleep.
Some cast bars attract a very heavy premium, highly sought after.
Cast or minted - cheapest, close to spot as possible works for me.

i love cast, can't beat it for that "industrial revolution" feel :) when i did metalwork at school we cast a horse brass and some aluminium trivets , loved the process ever since.

I definitely prefer cast bars over minted bars. I wish I could find Pd and Pt cast bars but I assume the higher melting point would make that difficult to mass produce, I've never seen one.

love both types
got these today from bullion list
