Didn't take long...Royal Baby Commemoraitve Silver Coin

I showed my wife the Perth Mint ones and she said they looked tacky. Then she asked if I wanted one with a critical look on her face.

The tradition of giving a silver gift to a new baby is centuries old, for silver has long been considered pure and precious.

So they offer Sterling silver purity and charge about 4 times too much!
I think it should be pure silver and good value to bode well for future prosperity (for the little stacker/tacker)

The coin itself doesn't seem to mention any royal birth, just like the Canadian 3-coin set doesn't.

NZ Post has just posted its Royal Baby coin on its website. I think it looks majestic. Way better than Perth Mint's. Mintage of 1500 only.

Sounds like a trick question to me.

The coin is such an iconic British design it would have been tacky to slap something regarding the baby on it.

As far as I'm aware the specifications for this coin match that of every silver crown struck by the Royal Mint dating back centuries

Fact is this is not a coin for flippers or stackers, this isn't even a coin for royal baby enthusiasts...this is a coin for numismatic collectors who see a greater value than just silver content.

First silver struck St George and Dragon sov design in over 100 years, beautifully detailed (and BIG) design on a crown-sized flan and a mintage of 7,500 that sold out in something like a week or two. It's a collectors wet dream! :D

Isn't mintage of George and Dragon a little bigger - 10k? :)

I would like to buy 1. :) Front looks great! ;)

10K all up but only 7,500 released as individual coins. The other 2,500 will be issued with a "Christening" coin later in the year

I think these images make it look even better than the Royal Mint pics

Actually I think from the look on her face she thought that if I bought the Perth Mint ones it would be the first time I'd wasted my money buying silver.

Nice enough looking coins, but really just generic baby birth coins as no mention of Royal Baby's name or anything. Hardly a Royal commerative like its being touted as. Open to public now and not selling to well.

The first one has William and Catherines initials with crowns on top, which is kind of the standard royal ciphers for them. Creating a coin takes time so they need to have most of the work done before the baby is born otherwise by the time they get the coin struck and offered the moment will have well and truly passed

Damn. I'm quite sad/angry now why didn't buy it when it was 80GBP. It's now selling for 250$ or more on feeBay. Maybe more auctions will drive the price down but who knows.

I offer 2 Stock horses for 1 Dragon & George.

This motive is very popular at our voluntary fire departments. Basically almost any larger village has its own, George the Dragon slayer being the protector of firefighters.

I'm not collecting coins for long, but these are probably the "lamest" pictures I have seen so far, even worse that "Sample" Tiffany Art 2012 coin found yesterday.

So without further ado:

Is this a plane? Is this a bird? No, it's Royal Birth coin!

I actually feel quite bad about making mockery of the seller as maybe doesn't have money for better camera, but considering its other pictures are good I can only say: WTF?!?!?!?! It want to actually sell the coin or what... :/
