Damaged RAM Masterpiece in Silver case

Hi everyone,

I just checked some of my RAM silver coin sets. The 1994 set was stuck to the bottom of the outer box, and when I pulled them apart, it pulled some of the case off.

I've always been careful in the way I store my coin collection, I was shocked to find what would have caused this to happen?

Welcome to the very large club...

The cases tend to get sticky over time on the masterpiece sets, it appears that they attract moisture for some reason. I've seen a few of them on auction sites that do mention that the outer case has damp damage

Thanks SteelHand it seems strange that it is the masterpiece sets, do you know if devalues the price of the sets the coins are still okay?

Don't want to be a downer but masterpieces of silver sets aren't usually worth much more than spot price (at auctions, ebay)
Especially the earlier ones that are sterling silver. The later pure silver ones (post 98) seem to be slightly more sought after
Doesn't help the coins are not straight up 1oz but all sorts of odd weights so don't appeal to bullion collectors and dealers

This was the case 15+ years ago when I was buying them at spot or lower and seems to still be the case now

So the condition of the packaging doesn't really matter much to the price tbh
