Silver Stacker
It's a silly way to stack silver, if I had a do over I would probably buy a few nice ones and spend the rest on bullion but I really really like them. I like the weight and the size and the obverse design.
Now that I have a pile I can't help but want more. It's so stupid but I kind of want 100 of them. I suppose it's a little like the people who collect round 50's...except your paying $50+ an ounce of sliver instead of $25.

For all the crowns I have I don't have a single 38.

Anyone else here nutty about crowns?

I have 2 x '37 and 1 x '38. As I only collect fifties, I see these three as prototypes.

You can have my '38 for 25 x fifties. Its highly graded, but buggered if I payed attention to the actual description.
 
I have about 10 of them but they really aren't an economical way of stacking.

I have some crowns from other countries as well.

I read that actually the round 50 was seen as a half crown and that part of the reason it was unpopular was that it had no pre decimal equivalent. It was proposed that a larger crown sized sliver coin would replace it (probably a larger silver dollar).
 
They're fantastic lads.
I've seen a few made into some beautiful jewelry pieces utilising the regal theme.

A crown is 5/-, i.e. 50c, no more, no less.

I have some 37s and 38s - only a few though.
As I like the size I started collecting crown sized coins from othet countries but that fad passed.
I don't trust them if they've been cleaned and are all shiny. Although a slim chance, they could be nickel copies imo.

CHEESE AND CRACKERS MAN! I've been paying $40 a pop even in bulk. No real tacky ones and a few nice ones but $40 for pretty standard vf+.

I would buy every one I could get for $5-7 over spot. Every single one.
 
They are so appealing to me, I could easily say one of my favorite pieces, I only have two because in the end of the day I think they have liquidity problems. But keep at it, if you do hit 100 you must get the 38
 
Ps, I bought one from peter stritch(I thinks the name) for $35 when silver was ~$30/oz then again I bought one from the same place for $35 when silver was ~$20
 
'37 crowns were my entry into silver coin collecting, and still are a sentimental favorite. Just like the size and weight, and look good in quadrum cases. Have 3x 38's (one for each kid to inherit). Also pretty easy for a novice like me to rough grade - look for the wear on the cross on the top orb on the crown.
 
Maybe I'm weird, but as much as I've tried, I just can't get into them..

Something about them that just says "meh."


I get my Aussie Ag fix elsewhere..
 
I just bought my first crown on ebay, it wasn't cheap (more than a panda!) but I just wanted to have one. If I were concerned with getting silver at the lowest price I could, then I wouldn't have gone for it. I just think the look interesting and are a decent size, I also think its really interesting how coins tarnish, I would never buy a clean one, it loses character I think. I'll post a photo when it comes, I'm pretty excited.
 
These are nice, and good weight in the hand.

Half a dozen 37's and nice nick 38 (which I can't find atm) .. I think that little lot is going to be it for me.
