Creative ways to obtain "free" silver.

I put free in quotes since all methods require at least time, and time is money.. but this is really creative ways to purchase silver with money you didn't know you had. Here are a few of my methods:

1. Trading up my aluminum cans and plastic bottles. I drink enough soda that I'm able to take 2-3 35 gallon trash cans to the recycle center. The money I receive from that is usually enough to buy at least a 1 ounce round about every month and a half. I also happen to live in a state where there is no deposit on cans and bottles, so this truly is extra money.

2. Coin jar. In my line of work, my coin jar fills up fast. And it's not money I really miss. Usually good for 2-3 rounds per month.

3. Link removed It's one of those sites where they pay you to look at ads. I can usually earn enough credits to get a free Ebay $25 gift certificate about every 2 months. Great way to buy silver on ebay and not really worry about the high premiums.

Anyone else have some creative ways they use to obtain silver?

How about you read the forum rules first regarding links
And maybe if you can the intro area

Quit drinking soda all together and you should save enough money to buy much more then an ounce a month!

It sounds like your doing what you can to save for silver which is admirable however your time is much more valuable then what you are earning on the site you mentioned. Picking up a part time job for a couple hours week would earn you more and you would not have to put up with the boring tasks of that website.

I do Ebay to earn extra cash. Some spent on silver and some not. I look for things in thrift and second hand stores. Buy,flip, repeat. Things usually cost me a couple bucks and I make between 15-80 per item after fees and original cost on ebay. Just have to have sharp eye and a phone to check completed Ebay listings.

How about not spending money on that soda to begin with and you'll have orders of magnitude more money each month than you get from recycling them.

Welcome to the forum, MotleyDude:

While we all respect your interest in silver stacking, this is not really the place to talk about how to raise extra cash.

Most of us already have some source of income it is only a question of how much of that income you're willing to allocate toward the silver investment.

Each person has to make that determination on their own, as every person will have different motivations, so the actual amount of money invested and the size of one's stack has no relevance to anyone else's situation.

You are free to post links to relevant news articles and other items of interest (including other sites where silver is sold if there is some new or unusual item that we have not seen before). Such links would not be considered spam in this forum, as they are intended by the poster to educate or entertain us, and not to sell us something.

Your new interest in stacking is a worthy pursuit, and your willingness to explore creative avenues to raise the needed cash to build your stack is admirable. This is a great time to get into it, as silver is relatively cheap at the moment.

Please check in often let us know about any interesting, fun, or informative things you discover (as they relate to silver). Just don't steer us to sites which have no relevance to our interest in silver.

Best Wishes, and have fun with this addictive new hobby !!

I feel I should clarify something. I already invest a good portion of my income into precious metals and other investments. What I was really interested in discussing is other creative ways to grow my investment using cash that most people wouldn't miss. I hope that's clear. The activities in the OP are NOT my sole method. Just in addition to.

In the past I used to get rolls of coins from banks and search for silver coins (mostly halves although I did search some quarters and dimes for 90% coins). I found a fair amount of both 90% but mostly 40% halves over the course of my time searching. Also found some oddball coins too. One bank let me buy the half dollars out of their coin counting machine once it was full ($1000 face). The machine defaulted any non US coinage or "non coin material" to the half dollar collection bag. Once the bag reached $1000 in halves, they would simply sell me the bag right off the machine. I took it without looking so if it was short my loss and vice versa. I would find cool foreign coins like mid 40s Australian Florins and others from time to time in that collection bag. Every now and then also found 90% US quarters and dimes, I guess because their weights are different than like modern non silver coinage. Also got some guitar picks, a couple gold earrings, fake finger nails, slightly bent or damaged non silver quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies, Canadian coins, etc).

At some point pretty much all the local banks that had coin counting machines got rid of them unfortunately. I miss the excitement driving home from the bank with that bag of halves and who knew what else, and it took all my effort to keep from looking through it in the parking lot and on the way home.
