Convincing family and friends about PM

Hey guys

I just convinced my older brother to buy a few ounces of silver, he/we are bidding on 5 ounces of silver on ebay from sammysilver, which is an awesome seller very very reliable and pretty cheap, he is bidding on 2 2009 philharmonic's and 2 2009 Maple Leaves I am also bidding on an extra maple leaf just for the hell of it.

Have you guys got many family/friends into PM? My bro is the only one willing to spend a bit of money on silver, especially after talking about china and india and evn the people in the U.S. using silver to trade. After which subject say china or gold backed currency do you think you got through to them?

Have you talked about the historical ratios with gold and silver?

What are your thoughts

I never advise family on investments. If it goes pear-shaped, dinner can be very uncomfortable.

Besides, I don't really want them to know all my business.

Provide info... not advice. Always say... "I can not tell you what you need to do, but this is what I did and here is why". Always suggest... NEVER ADVISE i.e "I suggest you do your own research as it may cost you if you don't"

Inside job is excellent
Mike Maloney's debt collapse is excellent and why gold/silver
Kyle Bass on AmeriCatalyst is great too

Yea he has been looking into itfor a few days and decided to buy 4 ounces, he does not want tobuy anymore until he has looked into it more, i suggested he not buy much, he was gonna uy a 1 kg bar buy i suggested just a few ounce coins and research

so if the day after tomorrow silver will be $50 - your brother knows whom to blame for not letting him buy 1 kg bar

don't do it.

+1 Don't do it.

If you must do something by planting the seeds of a thought by mentioning somthing about precious metals doing well (if you must)..otherwise you'll just make a 'crank' of yourself. :(

for the most part, leave it alone. My bet is that No one told you to buy PM's...you found your way by yourself.... let them do the same.

Just give them a copy of Mike Maloney's book and let them decide for themselves.

I'm quite impressed by the comments so far - says a lot about this forum.

I was just thinking how funny it is in stark contrast to a property forum - where no doubt it is (or was) "buy buy buy buy buy buy buy".

Did this. Still collecting dust on his desk a year later

That's been my experience as well except it's x4

Wanna know something funny though? ............................. I wrote in the spot price at the time so come the moon shot I have a "told you so" up my sleeve should I choose to unleash it. I probably won't though because then I might just see open palms extended

I'd like to add. If you do open your trap about PM's expect your opinion to mocked, dismissed and derided. They will mock you, ignore your advice. But they won't forget. And when PM's are in the news and your gold & silver ticket pays off expect visitors. That goes doubly for "preps". I was the source of open laughter (I"m not exaggerating) when a guest saw my modest, alpha strategy approved but survivalist inclined preps. Fast forward to the major Christchurch earthquake that "guest" thought immediately of Nugget and his supply of drinking water etc. I don't doubt for a minute that that guest would be straight around my place with her whole family had we been in the same city.

Property is an asset class that many hold here including myself.I suspect you are referring to the rants of NR who just can't help himself.

I personally want to see all the NEW content in his 102 thread so we can all review and offer input LOL.

I suspect we will just get some more historical commentary?

This is getting a bit OT, but yes, exactly. I have no problem with property (land) as an asset class - it is no doubt one of the oldest asset classes there is.

It is more the typical mentality I have seen across many forums that discuss property as an asset that will only ever rise - and that anyone who would suggest not buying is a fool. This includes advising every man and his dog (low doc) to do the same.

Whereas most people here are bullish on PMs, they don't necessarily think that everyone should be convinced into buying them, and that people who don't buy them are 'idiots' or perhaps 'fiscal pygmies'.

Sorry we are OT.

I agree with you.

I told them if they don't take this deal I would loose all respect for them and punch them.

I think about 1/2 now have all bought some but most don't really know why. I told them to hold onto it for 5 years and if it's not worth more I would buy it all back off them for their original purchase price so they can't loose.

What can I say, I'm a hard core Bull when it comes to Silver. I already bet the farm and all my assets myself so why not bet my friends and family at the same time. I figure I have spent over 5,000 hours studying Sliver over the last 6 years so pretty confident myself where it's going. If you want to listen I'll tell you what I know but if your not interested I'm not going to waste my breath.

One thing I do say though is Never to put in cash that they think they may need back with in the next 5 years as I don't want to see them have to sell out at a loss in 6 months time or something like that.
