Coins without the queen on them?

Looks like Fiji is removing the queen.
That's good. I love the Taku. Except....
in following years expect to see the Fijian coat of arms on the obverse of the gold taku as the Queen is removed from all Fijian coins and bank notes.
... the Fijian coat of arms is 2 badly drawn dudes in skirts.

A double tails Taku would be a winner.

I get tired of the queen too.

Ever notice... recently, that the queen has gills on her neck? skin flaps?

Somalian Elephants = no queen
Imo the first issue release around 2012 have gills. That problem have been fixed since been commented
by the public. maybe could be valuable. Any thought on that. :D

Is it a personal dislike of her Majesty, or do you think the people you will sell your silver onto will not buy it because of the picture on it? Can there be other queens on the coin, like Holland?
The same reason I'd avoid anything with Obama, Merkel or Barroso etc on it. It's nothing personal, and the rule extends to all monarchs/leaders.
It's just one more factor that could turn a potential buyer off. If not today, then maybe tomorrow.

How does having a face value (often way below intrinsic value) make any difference?
Perceived lower chance of being counterfeit. Not so important to me as a buyer, but could be a selling point in the future.

I'd be surprised if anyone in the future will really care.

Can you imagine someone saying 'I'm not buying that ancient Roman coin I love because it has Julius Ceaser's head on it!"

Time will make it historic and irrelevant.

As for personal preference, I'm with you :)

What a cool post, so many questions arise!

How does having a picture of the Queen on the coin effect the silver? Is it a personal dislike of her Majesty, or do you think the people you will sell your silver onto will not buy it because of the picture on it? Can there be other queens on the coin, like Holland?

What's the benefit of government issued silver over non government issued? We know that there is no additional security because we have seen pictures of fake Maples and fake Lunars.

How does having a face value (often way below intrinsic value) make any difference? If you are not going to spend them then what other purpose does having a face value serve? If anything I would think it would be riskier as being legal tender the government might like to lay some claim to it.

Anyway, the only reason I would buy one type over another would be price and availability. The denomination that the coin is in would not really worry me, if the US$ collapses then the ASE is still worth the same amount. I wouldn't pay any extra to have Panda's, for instance, imported into the country over anything available cheaper locally.

I like the Libertads and for a while they were bit higher in price but then the supply increased so they came down a bit.

It is a tough one though, the queen is everywhere

OUT
Canada - Maples
Fiji - Taku
UK - everything
Oz - everything
NZ - everything

IN
African countries
South America
Europe
Asia

Did you know we will have prince charles 2nd will be on our coins next{unless we become a republic or if he dies}.They can not leap frog him like some people think.

I thought prince charles would become King George or something. I heard they were going to drop the King Charles bit as it was unlucky...might have been a dream though.

In years to come Lizzy maybe recognised similar to the sovereigns.

How many Female World War II vets you know look like Heidi Klum?

In answer to your question the Dictator in charge of Fiji has evicted Her Maj from the coins for 2013 (I've met him - rather antisocial I thought, didn't buy his rounds in the Mess). The resulting coin is less than impressive. There's a load of Republics who don't have the Queen on their coins that issue Bullion Coins. China, Belarus, Laos, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, Iran, Syria, France, Turkmenistan, Peoples Democratic Republic of Congo, Venezuela. They've all thrown off the outdated notion of Hereditary Principle and look how free and happy their people are. Not sure about the US though - early days and all that.

I find that Queen picture just boring. You sit there, purposely bought X different coins with oxes rabbits snakes mapleleafs etc, and they all share the same backyard. By now even an old backyard. I want my silver to impress / shine / 'looking good / appear precious / indicate 'Value' in all ways / etc, and that Queen picture on a whole variety of coins is like a house where someone scratched 'Killroy was here' on every painting.

In Commonwealth countries they have nice old lady on coins. In Kazakhstan they have archer which is preparing to shoot the enemy:

"To crush you enemis, to see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women". (Conan).

No queen on our coins as well:

Turkmenistan - president:

North Korea: hammer and sickle and rocket!

Year of the dragon? Pfffff. In Russia they slay dragons (kill them before they grow!):

In Commonwealth countries they put only Queen on the coin. In Russia they put also the king!

Hail to the king baby.

In our country we have church on basically every hill. In Soviet Russia they melted bells and made tanks:

Surprised no one has mentioned these:

Source:

They are government issued and look beautiful.
Actually they aren't, http://currencies.wikia.com/wiki/Noah's_Ark
The metal used for the coins is provided by Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung, which features its hallmark on the Noah's Ark coin's obverse, and adheres to standards set by the London Bullion Market Association. Geiger Edelmetalle GmbH, a private mint in Germany, is given permission to mint these coins, as well as advertise, market, and sell them.

Despite being legal tender in Armenia, the Noah's Ark bullion coins are not sold by the Central Bank of Armenia, but by Geiger Edelmetalle GmbH and other European dealers. Without a certificate of authenticity, the validity of these coins was questioned until information was included on the Central Bank of Armenia's website.[1]
It's typical for private mints to try to put a legal tender currency on their coins, because in several countries this means a reduced tax rate.
Some appear to be scams though, alike those Andorra coins with the 'Diner' currency, which is according to EU law text not granted a legal tender status. Not in the EU and also not in Andorra itself, even not before it joined the common currency Euro zone.
